Alabama High School Team Preview: Baldwin County Tigers

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

The Baldwin County Tigers just missed out on making the Class 6A State Playoffs last spring, but they should come back in 2022 more motivated to take that next step this spring. The Tigers are in a tough area with Gulf Shores, Spanish Fort & Robertsdale, but it seems they're up for the task in 2022.

The Tigers bring back more than half of their lineup last year and a solid amount of pitchers who saw innings last year. OF Justin Brunson will undoubtedly be one of the top offensive producers for this team in his senior year. Brunson is a quality left-handed hitting senior who hit .440 last spring with three home runs. Look for him to be one of the top players in that area this spring. SS Reece Buck is another senior coming back this spring, as he missed out on most of the second-half of the season last year to injury. Back at full strength, Buck should continue to build off of last year's season that saw him hit .340 with three home runs. 3B/RHP Trevor Murphy is a junior who returns to the lineup after hitting .373 with two home runs as a sophomore last season. He'll also be called upon to pitch some impactful innings on the mound, as well. C Josh Minchew is another senior for the Tigers that has enjoyed a tremendous off-season in the weight room, and he'll see his role expand in 2022.

The Tigers bring back a solid core of offensive returners this spring, but there are also some young players eager to get some playing time this spring. LHP Jaxen Schuler is a sophomore that throws three pitches for strikes, while C/OF Myles Davis is a versatile player that handles the bat well, also. The Tigers will look to build off of last year and make it to the Class 6A State Playoffs this spring.
