Alabama High School Team Preview: Ardmore Tigers

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Ardmore Tigers enter this spring with a couple of top shelf arms but are looking for some others to provide some depth on the mound. The Tigers roster features a great deal of speed and there is some depth all over the field. Senior LHP/OF Cole Chetaham is definitely one of those top arms for the Tigers. The lefty has dominant stuff on the mound and will make it hard for opposing teams to score a bunch of runs. When he is not pitching, Cheatham will play in the outfield. The MIssissippi State signee (LHP) will also hit leadoff in the lineup. Luke Hogan is a very experienced player who will see time on the mound as a RHP and at SS. Hogan will be counted on offensively as well as he has started for the last 3 years. The Tigers will count on offensive production in the middle of the lineup from 1B Mason Billions. The 5'11 190 pounder also does a solid job defensively at 1B. Senior MIF/RHP Jackson Campbell is a nice athlete that has a very solid defensive setup while also seeing time on the mound. He could go a long way in providing some quality innings in 2021. Chris Allen is a senior RHP/OF that returns and is a very athletic player. He has very good runner and that translates well into the outfield. Allen sprays the ball to all fields at the plate. Junior C/INF Nathan Embrey caught every game during the short season a year ago. Theis year he will get a break from catching at times as he will sporadically move to the infield on some days. Yet another junior that will be counted on is OF Drew Daly. He is a tough out at the plate as he has no issues working an at bat deep into the count. He will also be counted on to provide leadership in the outfield. The Tigers can make some noise in 5A if they are able to find some quality depth on the mound.
