Although the outcome may not have been what the southpaw wanted on Tuesday night, there is no denying the stuff on the mound. The senior came out in the first inning and commanded the fastball at 88-91 mph and maintained that velocity through his 4 1/3 inning stint. He did lose command of the fastball a bit and went more to the breaking ball, which is another major weapon in his arsenal. He struck out 8 hitters but walked 9. Cheatham was able to throw the breaking ball in fastball counts and did a nice job keeping hitters off balance. Hitters seemed to swing over the top of the offering as he continued spin the pitch down in the zone, showing late depth. There is a ton of projection in the senior southpaw as he shows little to no effort in the delivery and will continue to progress with added strength and development.

6-foot-2, 187-pound. Advanced on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a very quick arm action and an over-the-top arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher and shows easy effort. Threw his fastball 88-91 mph and topped out at 92 mph; shows very consistent command and running action. His sharp curveball (78-80) had tight action and very consistent control. Showed very tight spin on the breaking ball that was filthy to compliment a high level fastball. Committed to Mississippi State the day after the event.

Had a nice stint on the mound. Had a bit of a deceptive, funky motion and hid the ball well in his delivery. The FB sat in the low 80’s and topped at 84 a few times. The ASR from this lefty was legit. The CB took very nice shape and showed sharp, late down action. The change up showed deception at 73 mph. Slender build with quick action in the delivery and the arm works from a short ¾ slot. Really like this LHP.
