Top Prospect Games: Quick Hits
July 1, 2020
The Top Prospect Games was a huge success and everything that we hoped that it would be, as we had the privilege of hosting some of the top uncommitted talent in the '21 and '22 classes that the state of Alabama has to offer. Choccolocco Park played host, as it was the perfect venue for this event. There were some standout performances both at the plate and on the mound, as there were a handful of arms who worked in the upper 80's and low 90's.
College coaches were following along closely during the event on Twitter, as we have had multiple coaches ask about players from this event. Some of these players will see their recruitment start to heat up due to their respective performances yesterday on the diamond. Be on the lookout for some commitments to come soon.
Let's take a look at some of the top performances from yesterday's event. Along with these players, there were many more players who were extremely impressive who we will highlight over the next few days.
’21 LHP Cole Cheatham (Ardmore)
An electric outing on the mound for the former Team Alabama member at the 2019 PBR Future Games. The southpaw lit up the radar gun, sitting 88-91, 92 mph with arm side action to the fastball. Breaking ball played as an out pitch with hard, late break. Showed the ability to throw it to the back foot against RHH’s. Committed to Mississippi State the day after the event.
‘21 LHP Cole Cheatham (@AHS_Baseball16), another #TeamAlabama member at the ‘19 #PBRFutureGames, lit up the radar during his inning of work. Worked 88-91, 92 mph with arm side action. Breaking ball shows hard, late bite to it. Deceptive delivery.@ShooterHunt #ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/xEcBKtEQUR

’22 LHP Alton Davis II (Bessemer Academy)
The biggest surprise on the day was this 6-foot-4, 180 pound southpaw. Attended an event last summer and topped out at 78 mph. Fast forward to yesterday, Davis II showed how big of strides he has made since that event. Came out working 88-89, 91 mph with the fastball. Showed ability to locate the fastball in the zone for the majority of the inning. Flashed a curveball at 69-71 mph but didn’t really need it. Tons of swings and misses with the fastball. Already has been receiving SEC interest since the event.
‘22 LHP Alton Davis II (@amdavis_2; @AcademyBessemer) with some ⚡️ stuff on the mound. Tall, lean frame with long limbs. Fastball worked 88-89, 91 mph and was in the zone. Curveball is still progressing at 69-71 mph. Lots of swings and misses. @ShooterHunt #ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/VzmuySItQz

’22 SS/RHP Davis Gillespie (Oak Mountain)
A big fan of the overall performance that Gillespie turned in yesterday, both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate, he showed the ability to be on time and hit the fastball, as he roped a double to the LCF gap during gameplay. Impressive BP round. On the mound, he was equally impressive. Fastball ranged 86-90 mph with an above average breaking ball with 11/5 action. Lots of swings and misses. A winner from the event.
After hitting a double to the LCF gap in the top half, ‘22 RHP/SS Davis Gillespie (@Gillespie_Davis; @OMHS_Baseball) sits 86-90 mph in the bottom half. Breaking ball shows 11/5 action. Heavy dosage of fastballs. Legit 2-way guy. #ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/oPcDu3id5C

’22 RHP/3B Joshua Bowerman (Mars Hill Bible)
There was a lot to like in the arm from this rising uncommitted junior. Works downhill on the mound, consistently sitting 86-88 mph with the fastball. Paired that with a solid breaking ball that showed 11/5 action at 71-72 mph. Did a nice job mixing up & down and sequencing pitches. Pounded the zone with his strong, durable frame. One to watch on the mound.

Love the bat and approach to the game for this rising uncommitted junior. More juice in his 5-foot-9, 170 pound frame than you would think. Showed a smooth, repeatable swing from the right side with a strong top hand. Translated from BP to gameplay, as he got the head out on a hanging breaking ball and roped it down the LF line for a double. Made all the routine plays at SS during gameplay.
Nice job by ‘22 SS Ayden Amis (@AmisAyden; @AHSBaseball17) sitting back on a hanging breaking ball and hooking it down the LF line for a double. #ALTPGames20 https://t.co/QSvW08soMX pic.twitter.com/LBaIrTKe7Y

Really like the overall body of work that this uncommitted backstop turned in on Tuesday. Swung it well during BP, but was more impressed with his AB’s during gameplay. Showed definite pull side pop when he launched a homerun to LF. A premium defender behind the plate, as he posted 1.87-1.94 pop times with accurate throws to the bag during the workout. Handled the arms well during gameplay as well. Received and accepted his invite to this summer's PBR Future Games in early August.
‘22 C/3B Walker Zapp (@WalkerZapp; @AuburnHighBSB) jumps on a hanging breaking ball and hits a no-doubter to LF. A lot of thump in that right-handed bat. Premium defender behind the plate, 1.84-1.94 pop times during the workout.#ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/RffbStNyja

’21 RHP/SS Jacob Peters (Helena)
Like the 2-way potential the Peters showed during the event yesterday. Showed a knack for finding the barrel during BP, as he sprayed line drives to the gaps. On the mound, he showed advanced pitchability with confidence in all 3 pitches. Fastball worked 86-88 mph with some arm side action. Really commanded it to his glove side. Slider showed sharp, late break to it at 78-79 mph. Threw his changeup for strikes at 78-79 mph and showed no trouble getting it to his glove side against RHH’s. Up tempo pitcher with a bulldog mentality. Strike thrower.
‘21 RHP/SS Jacob Peters (@JacobPeters_3; @HelenaHuskiesBB) was as advertised on the mound. Fastball was a consistent 86-88 mph with great command to his glove side. Breaking ball was 78-79 mph. Changeup is a plus pitch with fade at 78-79 mph. Threw all for strikes.#ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/2DzR3WCWur

This rising senior really jumped out on the mound yesterday. Showed a sneaky fastball at 86-88 mph with command. Breaking ball was an out pitch at 73-76 mph with late, 11/5 break. Pounded the zone with the fastball and pitched with confidence. Possibility for a little more velo with added strength.

’22 C/RHP Tucker Stockman (Athens)
Member of the Team Alabama at the 2019 PBR Future Games, Stockman continued to show the strides that he has made with the stick. Tons of loud contact to the gaps during his round of BP. Whippy barrel that has added some more power to his game. Could easily move to 1st base, but showed good receiving skills behind the dish.
Another #TeamAlabama member from the ‘19 #PBRFutureGames, ‘22 C/RHP Tucker Stockman (@StockmanTucker; @AHSBASEBALL_1) is a force from the right side at the plate. Line drives with carry during BP. Already shown the power this summer at @LakePointSports. #ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/pszhayOecg

’22 3B McGwire Turner (Helena)
Continues to show up at events and show why he is one of the top uncommitted corner infielders in the state of Alabama. Power has come on with added strength to his frame with potential for more. Pull side approach with some lift in his swing. Hit multiple balls out during BP and made the routine plays at 3rd base during gameplay. Received and accepted his invite to this summer's PBR Future Games in early August.

’22 SS/2B William Burgreen (Decatur)
Another member of Team Alabama from the 2019 PBR Future Games, Burgreen continues to improve with the bat. As a switch hitter, he looked pretty comfortable from both sides of the plate during BP. Singled to RF from the right side during gameplay. Reliable with the glove, could easily move to 2nd base but also looked comfortable at shortstop.
‘22 SS/2B William Burgreen (@williamburgreen; @D_HighBaseball), a member of #TeamAlabama at the ‘19 #PBRFutureGames, keeps adding strength to his 5-foot-11, 160 pound frame. Feel for the barrel during his round of BP and let’s the hands work. 6.73 runner.#ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/ya8rjNiGfU

’21 OF/RHP Avery Seaton (Madison Academy)
An uncommitted rising senior that has really seen his recruitment heat up over the past week, bringing in multiple offers from D2’s and JUCO’s. Impressive display of power during BP with a pull side to middle approach at the plate. Displayed a quick bat with a balanced setup. Shouldn’t stay uncommitted for too long. QB prospect on the gridiron as well.
A very loud round from ‘21 OF/RHP Avery Seaton (@Seaton_Avery; @MAMustangsBB) during BP. Strong lower-half at the plate with some lift. Shouldn’t stay uncommitted for long.#ALTPGames20 pic.twitter.com/mmD6vYAGDr
