Hit: (RHH) Begins in an open wide stance with a compact load, then uses a small leg kick. Explosive bat speed. Good extension on his finish, loose uphill swing. Pull side approach.

Power: 97 mph exit velocity, average 90.10 mph. 70.72 mph bat speed average. 24.19 mph hand speed average.

Defense: (C) 1.97-2.02 pop times. Athletic footwork, clean exchange. Advanced. Above average flexibility and quiet setup.

Arm: 78 mph catcher velocity. Short arm action, high ¾ slot, consistent accuracy.

Speed: 7.06 (60-yard).

One of the top uncommitted 2022 grads that follows up a 7A state championship with an impressive showing at the event. 

OF/C Walker Zapp (2022) is a familiar face that has seemed to have gotten better and better at each look. Slotted in the designated hitter role on Thursday night for the Tigers, Zapp reached base in all four plate appearances. Reached on a double/misplayed ball in left field during his first at-bat of the game, walked twice, and singled in the 6th inning. Zapp showed off a little bit of the clutch gene in Thursday’s contest. With his team trailing and only four outs left, Zapp came to the plate with the tying run on 2nd and two outs. The 5-11, 190 pounder adjusted well to a breaking ball, and served it back up the middle, scoring the tying run for the Tigers in a huge situation. He came back up in the 8th, but was intentionally walked. We’ve seen how well he defends behind the plate during the summer/fall circuit, but is playing more outfield/designated hitter so his bat can be in the lineup. A former Future Gamer from this past summer that is still on the market.

5-foot-11, 190-pound solid frame. Above average at the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 101 mph. Begins in an open stance with a compact load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed is electric, shows rotational swing plane and good extension on his finish. He produced tons of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. Behind the plate, he made strong throws to second and produced an efficient position velocity of 82 mph; has fluid feet, sure hands, and a quick exchange. Showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.92-2.00. A lot of flexibility and quiet setup. Had a short arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.97. Another impressive day for the uncommitted junior catcher.

5-foot-10, 190-pound physical frame. During batting practice, Zapp showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 95 mph. Began in a crouched stance with a quick load, then used a short stride before his swing. Bat speed is efficient, uses simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found lots of barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. While catching, had quick feet and transfers on his throw downs, recording a 1.87-1.94 pop time, he produced a position velocity of 76 mph during throw downs; has soft hands, consistent feet and a quick exchange. A lot of flexibility and athletic setup.Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a very quick arm action. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.81.

Zapp showed very well at the event as he posted some very impressive and consistent pop times, ranking from 1.93- 1.95. Throws were consistently on the bag. He was very quiet behind the plate and the set up was solid with a nice low target. Showed a nice skill of expanding the plate and stealing pitches for the pitcher and did a nice job “sticking” pitches on or slightly off the black of the plate. Also showed an event best of 79 mph C velocity. Showed a slightly open and crouched stance and did a nice job getting his weight back to the launch position. There is some pop in his middle to pull approach, evidenced by a 90 mph exit velocity reading off the tee.
