Mizuno Pitcher & Player of the Week: Week 5
March 28, 2022
Each week during the high school season, we will be announcing the Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Thanks to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season.
Check out our scout blog HERE for games our staff was able to get out and see this past week.
Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.
New this year will be our Alabama Diamond Notes that we will release each Tuesday. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Mizuno Pitcher or Player of the Week. Look for that tomorrow.
Let's take a look at the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 5 (March 21-26):

Stats from week 5
Steele's prowess with the bat has been known for awhile and this week was no exception as the future Samford Bulldog had an impressive week against high quality arms. The senior catcher was 8-17 (.471 BA) on the week which included one double and three home runs. In addition to these 17 at-bats he also reached base in four other plate appearances (three via walk and one on a hit-by-pitch) while driving in 12 runs as well. Steele also stole a base. In Hoover's game with national power Parkview (GA) on Saturday, Steele was 4-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
