Oak Mountain Duo Look to Lead the Eagles in 2019

Oak Mountain duo look to lead the Eagles in 2019:

Oak Mountain High School and Coach Derek Irons have enjoyed tremendous success over the past few years and 2019 looks to be more of the same. Although the Rebels do lose some key pieces to graduation, they will look to a few returners and newcomers to step into more prominent roles. Two returnees that will play a leading role for Oak Mountain are Jackson Kimbrell, and Landon Cato.

Jackson Kimbrell LHP / Oak Mountain, AL / 2019

Returns as the ace for the 2019 Eagles pitching staff after logging 55 ⅓ IP in 2018 striking out 96 hitters. He concluded the year with a 6-3 record and a 2.53 ERA. In the final four games he pitched of his junior season (26 IP) he only allowed 2 ER’s. Although Kimbrell will be on the mound once he gets to college, he is a two way guy for Oak Mountain that can defend and swing the bat as well. He is an Ole Miss commitment.

Landon Cato 3b / OAK MOUNTAIN, AL / 2019

A power bat and big time run producer hitting in the middle of the 2018 Eagles lineup and will be called upon again to do the same in his senior year. A physical player, Cato hit .430 with 6 HR’s, 16 2B’s and 42 RBI’s. He drove in 13 runs in the first 6 games of the season and homered in 3 consecutive at bats over a 2 game period in late February and early March. Cato should not stay uncommitted long as this summer plays out.
