Alabama Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Edgewood Academy Wildcats enjoyed another successful season in 2023, as they reached the Final Four in Class AA of the AISA. They continue to take the next step each year after reaching the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2022 and have their sights set on an even bigger goal in 2024. There's plenty of warranted optimism with six positional starters and seven pitchers returning with experience from last spring.

The Wildcats look to have a solid mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen returning on their roster and should be very experienced in 2024. Returning to the top of the lineup and the middle of the infield, SS Ethan Evans (2025) is one of the few key pieces returning to this year's team. The junior shortstop is known for his solid defense and does a good job of setting the tone at the top of the order. Playing right beside him, INF Drew Allison (2024) is another top-of-the-order hitter that is a reliable defender up the middle. 1B Brock Whitt (2026) is an exciting young prospect that possesses big time power from the right side of the plate and will be expected to drive in plenty of runs this spring hitting in the middle of their order. He's listed at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds and is an intriguing sophomore prospect to follow. C Parker Shaw (2025) returns behind the plate and has done an excellent job of handling the Wildcats' pitching staff. The junior backstop is a solid defensive catcher and is another power hitter in the middle of their order. On the mound, LHP/OF Logan Moomey (2025) will undoubtedley be of their top arms once again this season. The junior southpaw isn't afraid of the big moment and has made some big pitches for the Wildcats throughout his high school career. He'll be expected once again to have a big season on the mound.

With plenty of upperclassmen talent returning, the Wildcats also have some talented younger prospects that have a chance to breakthrough at the varsity level this season. LHP Ethan Seals (2026) is one of those prospects that has a chance to see some significant time on the mound. He gets tons of movement on all of his pitches and can be very effective. LHP/OF Colten Lashely (2027) may only be a freshman, but the southpaw has already shown the ability to be a competitor on the mound. He also gets plenty of movement on his offerings and could be a big piece for the Wildcats this spring. After reaching the Final Four a season ago, Edgewood Academy once again looks poised to be a real threat in AISA Class AA in 2024.
