2018 Rankings Update: 7.10.2017

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

After a busy spring and summer, we are revamping our 2018 rankings. An update that is long overdue. As we move into this classes senior season there has been a lot of movement in the rankings, as players have begun to separate themselves from projection to production as they get older.

The 2018 class is a very talented class which is drawing interest across the country, as this group is littered with front line arms, with 7 of the top 10 players in this class being classified as a pitcher. 2018 RHP Kam’Ron Mays-Hunt is a two-way talent with a slight lean toward the pitching side of things.

No.1 remains the same with 2018 RHP Connor Noland. Noland has continued to display advanced arm strength and an elevated level of pitch ability. He also has shown to be a very productive player as position player, playing third base for Greenwood High School. Noland is committed to Arkansas, as a baseball player and as a Quarterback in football. The football commitment speaks to the quality of athlete Noland is, which makes him a very projectable prospect.

The largest jump in the rankings come from 2018 RHP/OF Kam’Ron Mays-Hunt moved up from No. 20 to No.6 in the class. Mays-Hunt has always been touted as a tremendous athlete with advanced tools. His concentration on football had taken away from baseball. A rededication to baseball in the spring as payed big dividends as his on-field production has matched his raw tools. He recently committed to Arkansas after the Top Prospects Games, where he showed his ability to command the strike zone with a fastball 88-91 with late life through the strike zone and sharp slider thrown 77-80 mph. He also showed tools which projects him as a two-way player running a 6.59 and throwing the baseball 93 mph from the outfield. He also produced exit velocity up to 91 mph.

The rankings have expanded to 110players from the class. This class has depth with several players which are gaining interest on the regional and national level. The recruiting for this class will be hectic over the next few months, we will do our best to keep up.
