Midwest Mavericks Scout Day: Stat Story

By: Diego Solares

On Wednesday, June 15th, the PBR Missouri staff traveled to Springfield, Missouri, to host the Midwest Mavericks Scout Day. This event featured more 30+ players from the 2023-to-2025 grad classes and provided our staff an opportunity to check in on players from the Mavericks' program as the summer circuit swings into full effect.

Now, at the event's conclusion, we'll start mining the data from the day and highlight which players put up noteworthy numbers throughout the workout. Here are a few nuggets on a few standouts:

+ Perhaps the day’s biggest takeaway was INF Sebastian Norman (Glendale, 2025), who emerged the event as a high-follow name in Missouri’s incoming sophomore class. Built at an ultra-physical 6-foot-2, 215-pounds, Norman kicked off his day by running a 6.43 in the 60-yard dash, the day’s fastest mark. Coleman displayed elite level bat speed in BP and thumped the hardest ball off his barrel at 99 mph. He hopped on the mound afterwards and popped an 88 mph high with his fastball, sitting at 86-88 mph throughout his ‘pen.

+ RHP Caide White (Republic, 2024) tied with the aforementioned Coleman for the day’s hardest fastball at 88 mph, also sitting at 86-88 mph with his heater. The 6-foot, 195-pound White ran a 7.05 in the 60-yard dash and recorded a 91 mph max exit velocity, too.

+ Another name-to-know uncommitted follow from this event: OF/RHP Keyton Cook (Licking, 2024). Cook, who stands at an athletic and projectable 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, and displayed noticeable arm strength throughout his workout. He reached a 90 mph max from the outfield, the day’s highest mark by seven ticks, and bumped his fastball up to 87 mph, finishing a tick behind the two event leaders.

+ One of the few incoming seniors in attendance, uncommitted INF/RHP Brooks Kettering (Glendale, 2023) increased his metrics pretty significantly since we last saw him. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitter ran a 6.76 in the 60-yard dash, which was the day’s third-highest mark, and he juiced up one of the day’s hardest hit balls, peaking at 96 mph in BP. Kettering hopped on the mound later on and ran his fastball up to 86 mph, too.

+ Two catchers, C Beck Jones (Harrison, 2023; AR) and C Tank Sims (West Plains, 2024), are both physical backstops that popped at this event. Jones, who’s still uncommitted, stands at a sturdy 5-foot-11, 205-pounds and ran a 7.12 in the 60-yard dash. His hardest hit ball left his bat at 96 mph in BP and he peaked at 78 mph from the couch as well. The left-handed hitting Sims boasts a 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame and also recorded a 96 mph peak exit velocity in BP. He threw the day’s hardest bullet from the crouch at 80 mph and also the quickest throw at 1.97 seconds to the bag.
