Prep Baseball Report

Recruits on the Rise: 6.12.17

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

As the summer heats up, so will the recruiting process. Each Monday, I will highlight players from across the state, whose name continues to pop up as a player to watch or recruit.

The big winner this week is 2018 RHP/OF/INF Kam’Ron May-Hunt from Bentonville. Hunt has been laying in the weeds, as an outlier prospect over the past two springs. Our initial 2018 rankings had May-Hunt as one, on pure tools. Through the years he has slid due to lack of consistent on field production and the development of players in front of him ( Mays-Hunt is one of the highest regarded football prospects and his concentration has been on football). In the spring he showed well with a renewed dedication to baseball. This summer his name has been on fire, he began at our work we hosted for Sticks Scout Day where he ran a 6.53 in the 60 showed big time arm strength, 93 from the outfield, 92 from the infield, and 91 off the mound. His BP rounds were solid with a compact line drive swing he produced exit velocities up to 91 mph. His name took another jump this week end, in a tournament at Tulane University as he stood out on the mound pitching twice out of the bullpen flashing a fastball 89-91 mph and a slider 75-76 mph. This report is from Trey Sofio; PBR Louisiana scouting director. Throughout the week end; I began receiving phone calls from several schools throughout the south, as high as SEC programs. Keep an eye out for Mays-Hunt as this recruiting process will most likely go very swift, as he is a pop-up arm, late in the 2018 classes recruiting cycle.

2018 RHP Andrew McGlynn from Rogers High School flashed an advanced arm action with some arm speed over the week end. He plays with Perfect Timing out of Northwest Arkansas, He is arm that will not stay on the board very long.

2019 MIF Peyton Holt picked up his second NCAA Division I offer over the week end. The Greenwood native is one of four players in the 2019 class which has a scholarship offer. I am excited to see Holt this week at the Top Prospects Games.

2020 MIF Beau Stuckey is a name that continues to be brought up when discussing the deep 2020 class. Stuckey is one of 14 2020 graduates that we have invited to participate in the Top Prospects Games. Reports are that he is an above average athlete with solid defensive tools; look for his name to come up again soon, as I will have a full report on him soon.

2020 OF Clayton Gray from Cabot High School is a name to take off recruiting boards as he committed to Arkansas over the week end. Gray is a left-handed hitting outfield with above average athleticism and a feel to hit. He had a big spring for helping Cabot win a 7A State Title. He plays for Arkansas Prospects 2020 (Menard) in the summer.
