Recruits on the Rise: 6.19.17

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

As the summer heats up, so will the recruiting process. Each Monday, I will highlight players from across the state, whose name continues to pop up as a player to watch or recruit.

On June 12th, we looked at several players; including 2018 RHP/OF Kam’Ron Mays Hunt,2018 RHP Andrew McGlynn, and 2019 MIF Peyton Holt. All three continued to have a good summer and improved their stock. Mays-Hunt and Holt picked up more scholarship offers. McGlynn has another solid start working 84-87 mph in 6 scoreless innings against the Midwest Nationals on Sunday. Here is June 12th Recruits on the Rise.

This week look at some of the names that stood out at the Top Prospects Games and the Chad Wolf Classic.

2018 MIF Bryce Dodd Clinton HS: Dodd ran a 6.37 in the 60 at the Top Prospects Games last Tuesday. He also showed advanced arm strength throwing the baseball 85 mph from the outfield. On the infield he showed fluid actions, playing through the baseball, he used an easy exchange and an accurate arm. Offensively he showed a line drive swing with the ability to make consistent loud contact. As he matures and adds strength look for him to be a high-end prospect with his elite athleticism.

2018 MIF Chris Willard Nashville HS: Willard showed to be a versatile player competing in game, on the infield, in the outfield and on the mound. He projects as an infielder moving forward. He has solid lateral movement with fluid footwork. He uses a normal exchange and an accurate arm, with a short arm action. He threw the baseball 77 mph across the infield. Offensively he showed bat speed and a feel for the barrel as he collected multiple hits in game. He also produced exit velocity up to 90 mph. Overall a versatile player with a projectable frame and slight build.

2019 RHP Zane Ryne Neves Jonesboro HS; Showed advanced pitchabilty with two pitches. His fastball worked 86-89 mph with slight sink and was commanded at the bottom half of the strike zone. He complimented that with a sharp slider thrown 74-77 mph with late action and 10/4 shape. He was sound repeating his up-tempo delivery with a distinct balance appoint and some effort to his delivery. Overall Neves, is ready to pitch collegiately now with two advanced pitches.

2019 RHP Landon McAllister Har-Ber HS: Neves is a polished ready product, McAlister is a prospect which projects to be one of the frontline arms in the 2019 class. The 6-foot-3 170-pound right-hander has a large frame, and an athletic build. He commanded the strike zone with his fastball 82-85 mph with late life through the strike zone. He also showed command of a breaking ball and a changeup. McAllister is a large framed athlete which projects to have a high ceiling, a name that should start seeing recruiting interest after the Top Prospects Games.

2020 INF G Allen Little Rock Christian HS: Allen physically impresses, as a 6-foot-2 190-pound infielder with a large frame and physical build. He put on a show in batting practice showing raw power as he drove the baseball out of the yard consistently. Defensively he showed choppy footwork at 3rd base but showed an accurate arm throwing the baseball 76 mph across the infield. Overall, he impresses with his physical strength and his ability to hit, as a left-handed hitting infielder.
