Southwest Baptist Commits Infielder from Providence Academy

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

2017 MIF Sam Box committed to Southwest Baptist University. Box is an athletic middle infielder with a projectable frame. I first saw Box compete for Providence Academy in the spring of 2016. He played with Perfect Timing this past summer.  Through his performances in the spring and summer he received an invitation to the All-State which were held at Henderson State University in October. Below you will find my full report from that event.

Sam Box, MIF, Providence Academy
Box is a 6-foot 175-pound infielder with a projectable frame and an athletic build. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a minimum load and stride. He uses average bat speed and an uphill swing to produce exit velocities up to 86 mph. Defensively, he plays through the baseball with some stiffness and normal actions. He uses a normal exchange with, throwing accurately from a H 3/4 arm slot 83 mph across the infield. Overall Box is a well rounded player with developed skill at most phases of the game.
