Wednesday, April 13th
+ Cole Carlon - Corona Del Sol, AZ 2023 (Arizona State commit)
6-foot-4 185 pounds, Arizona State commit Cole Carlon put the team on his back on Wednesday vs Chaparral. The long south paw went the distance in a 7 inning performance, allowing only 1 run. Delivering from a high 3/4 slot with a cross fire delivery, Carlon had the FB/CB combo working, CB was tough on LHH. His mistakes were very limited, living on the corners and not giving his opponent much to hit. FB velo was up to 88 mph in the first, with a slight velo drop in the 2nd down to 83-84 mph where he would finish his outing. Usually more of an impact at the plate hitting in the middle of the Corona order, but this day was quiet for Carlon, punching out 3 times. Carlon showed on Wednesday that there is some deception to his delivery and that he can work deep into games.

+ Andrew Carroll - Chaparral, AZ 2022 (Arizona commit)
6-foot-2 200 pounds, University of Arizona commit, Andrew Carroll just recently got back on the mound for the Firebirds after missing some time. On Wednesday vs Corona Del Sol, Carroll looked as if he didn't miss a beat. Delivering from a H3/4 slot with an athletic delivery, Carroll had the FB/CB/CH mix working. The downward breaking CB was freezing hitters and getting SW/M, and he was using the CH to RHH and LHH. FB stays true with some ride and more velo in the tank. He took the tough loss against Corona allowing only 2 runs, 1 of those being earned. Adding Carroll back into the rotation will be big for the Firebirds as they try to lock up a playoff spot here in the final stretch.
4 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 3 BB
+ Wyatt Halvorson - Chaparral, AZ 2023 (Uncommitted)
6-foot-2 210 pounds, the uncommitted 2023 prospect was very interesting last night. He made a 2 inning appearance out of relief and showed some big upside on the mound. The big bodied right hander was using 2 pitches FB/SL very effectively in his 2 innings. He kept his composure in a big spot with RISP, and was able to get himself out of a late innings run scoring threat. The SL was good to RHH and used it with confidence. Halvorson could be a key piece to Chap's success through their stretch run this year, and next year as well.
2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB
+ Liu Rodriguez - Chaparral, AZ 2025 (Uncommitted)
5-foot-9 150 pounds, keep an eye out for this 2025 prospect, as he's been showing tremendous upside and ability in the infield. The switch hitting freshmen took at bats only from the left side yesterday and turned in a 1-3 day, with a left on left base hit in the 4-hole. His ability in the infield is advanced with great foot/glove work and ability to read hops. He recorded a 79 mph IF velo at our January events and showed more in the tank with the arm and a great mental clock from the left side. Rodriguez is playing SS at a high level for his age with much room to grow. We will be following his development as a switch hitter, and very excited to see how everything unfolds for the skilled freshmen.

+ Ayden Crouse - Corona Del Sol, AZ 2022 (Uncommitted)
5-foot-11 185 pounds, uncommitted 2022 OF prospect with plus speed, tracking ability in the OF, and base running instincts. We've gotten to see Crouse progress over the years and he's really starting to put it all together. He's become more consistent to the top half of the baseball and with contact, allowing his speed to play great on the offensive end. Speed is the name of his game, as Crouse plays the game fast and explosive. He puts pressure on the defense when he's in the box and on the bases with a great understanding of base stealing and getting around the bases. Crouse is always looking to take the extra base a reek havoc. He has the ability to play all three outfield spots, as we saw him running balls down in CF and LF on Wednesday vs Chaparral.
1-3 1B, R, SB
+ Connor Mattison – Canyon View HS, AZ 2023 (Long Beach St commit)
Medium frame w/ long arms and projection remaining. NWU delivery from HTQ slot, showing average effort. Good looseness to arm. FB 87-90 mph (2200-2250 rpm), sat 89 mph w/ solid angle and average run. Likes to elevate the FB and over power hitters. CH 72-76 mph (1950-2050 rpm) w/ downer arm-side fade and average sell. CB 69-73 mph (2100-2200 rpm) w/ 11-5 shape and average top to bottom finish. Scattered strikes for deep counts w/ ability to land all three pitches when needed. Average feel to mix, using any pitch to end at-bats. Pitches w/ intensity and energy. Finished w/ 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB and 12 Ks.
2023 grad and Long Beach St commit Connor Mattison (Canyon View HS) got the victory today over Sunrise Mountain, showing solid three pitch mix. Finishing w/ 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB and 12 Ks.

+ Ashton Zacher – Canyon View HS, AZ 2023 (Uncommitted)
Top catcher in 2023 AZ HS class, still uncommitted. Medium compact frame w/ solid maturity and strength throughout. Average athlete. Switch-hitter, stronger from LHH. From RHH doesn’t utilize lower half and shows late entry w/ uppercut path. LHH engages lower better, gets on-plane earlier and shows same uppercut swing. Gap to gap power. Solid defensively behind the dish, takes pride in pitch framing and receiving. Arm projects to be average down the road. Finished 1-for-3 w/ a single and BB.
Uncommitted 2023 grad Ashton Zacher (Canyon View HS) is an intriguing switch-hitting catcher who was solid behind the dish today and chipped in offensively in a victory over Sunrise Mountain. + Matthew Hart – Canyon View HS, AZ 2023 (Uncommitted)
Son of former ML All-Star Corey Hart has a similar long lean frame w/ plenty of projection left. Average athlete still growing into long limbs. Shows ability to shorten up and keep hands in tight w/ solid bat speed. Has some difficulty w/ pitch ID. Gap power now that projects to be above average in the future. Strong arm from RF w/ plus carry and accuracy. Average feel to defend in COF w/ fringy speed to guard the line. Length to projection here but upside is high. Finished 2-for-4 w/ two singles. Also pitched in relief w/ FB 82-85 mph.
Uncommitted 2023 grad Matthew Hart (Canyon View HS) shows size, projection, power and arm strength while playing RF. Son of former MLB All-Star Corey. Finished 2-for-4 today.@PBRArizona @PBR_Uncommitted @CVJagsBaseball @matthewhart2023 pic.twitter.com/Kc5DK5mHaK

Tony Wolters type body and ability w/ solid athleticism. Small lean strength frame. Shows balance and rhythm at the plate. Solid bat speed w/ on-plane path for contact over power approach. Did display pull-side power w/ a blast in the bottom of the 7th to pull his team within one run. Doesn’t have to sell average to get to power. Average defender behind the dish w/ defensive versatility to play CF or 2B. Average arm strength w/ solid accuracy. Plus runner was hobbled today by foul ball off left foot in first inning. 2-for-4 w/ a single, homerun, one run and 2 RBIs.

+ Garrett Sloan - Estrella Foothills, AZ 2022 (New Mexico State commit)
6-foot 200 pounds, IF Garret Sloan is capping off his high school career the way many would hope to. He's putting up huge offensive numbers and playing a clean 3B for Estrella Foothills. Sloan is a great all around athlete that understands the game of baseball and carries a leadership role on his team. He is a line drive gap-to-gap hitter that is showing some power potential in 2022. He's left the yard to all parts of the field and is hitting extra base hits at a large rate. Through his at bats on Tuesday, Sloan was staying stacked, hitting from a strong position in his legs, and getting the barrel through the zone. He moves his feet well in the infield with enough arm strength to remain on the left side for now. Look for Sloan to finish the year strong and lead his team through a playoff push.

+ Brock DeBattista - Estrella Foothills, AZ (Uncommitted)
5-foot-10 160 pounds, Brock DeBattista is one of the leading offensive contributors for Estrella Foothills and is making an impact on the left side of the diamond at SS. He plays with a high motor and baseball IQ, with offensive upside and defensive skills. With good athleticism and fast twitch actions, DeBattista has made himself a high follow in Arizona's 2024 class. Seems to have the ability to stay on the left side, and will follow his development over the course of his high school career. Offensively, DeBattista will be an impact bat for Estrella Foothills, and we're looking forward to continuing following his development on that front as well.

+ Nick Agacki - Phoenix College, AZ (Hawaii-Hilo commit)
Committed to Hawaii-Hilo the towering 6’8 Agacki comes from a LTQ slot which creates deception. Open strider from stretch only delivery. FB 86-90 (2250-2300 rpm) sat 88 w/ average arm-side run and angle. CH 80-83 (1800-1900 rpm) w/ average sell and downward fade, trust it a lot and throws it in any count. SL 80-83 (2000-2200 rpm) w/ cement mix spin. Scattered strikes w/ frequent deep counts. Has the size and arm strength to project more vel down the road. Finished w/ 3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB and 6 Ks.
Towering RHP w/ funky sidearm operation that generates ground ball contact. Long and lanky frame 6’6/196 lbs w/ plenty of projection remaining. Utah Valley U commit. Crossbody delivery from sidearm slot. FB 82-83 (2220-2250 rpm) sits 83 w/ heavy sinking movement. CB 72-73 w/ looping 10-6 shape. Average strike thrower who isn’t afraid to pitch to contact.
Hicks had an impact on both sides of the ball last night, leading Verrado to a 4-2 victory over Willow Canyon HS. Getting the start on the mound he pitched out of a FWU delivery and pumped elevated FB’s by hitters all night. FB worked 82-84, sat 83 and got plenty of SW/M. Finishing the night w/ 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB and 12 Ks. At the dish he added a double and finished the night 1-for-3.
Monday, April 11th
+ Kolby Felix - Liberty, AZ 2022 (Colorado Mesa commit)
5-foot-11 180 pounds, OF Kolby Felix missed some time this spring due to a hamate fracture, an injury seen frequently in hitters to their bottom hand, usually when gripping the bat lower around the knob. In Felix's first AB back from the surgery, he saw 10 pitches, fouling off 5 pitches and working it to a full count. The at bat resulted in a no doubt HR to deep LF for his first of the year. The Liberty lineup has been missing their senior leader in the middle of the order, as he provides: strength, speed, and a quality at bat. He hits from a very balanced position with simple and easy swing mechanics. Felix will roam CF for the Lions for the remainder of the year with hopes of ending the season on a good note.
