PBR Colorado All-State Team

Now that the 2023 season has come to an end, we are excited to unveil our PBR All-State team. These players distinguished themselves throughout the season, played a key role in their team's achievements, and demonstrated unwavering consistency throughout the year. Without further ado, let's take a closer look at the 25 players who made the cut for the 2023 season.

PITCHERS

Mitch Haythorn RHP / Eaton , CO / 2024

In 14 appearances on the mound in 2023, Haythorn pitched to a 0.82 ERA across 51.1 innings, with 113 strikeouts, 22 hits, and 27 walks allowed. Haythorn was undefeated this spring with a 10-0 record. 

Laif Palmer RHP / OF / Golden, CO / 2023

Palmer racked up 128 strikeouts across 71.2 innings in 2023. We also saw the senior pitch to a 1.86 ERA with 46 hits and 21 walks allowed. Palmer was unbeatable this season with a 9-0 record. 

Jacob Syverson RHP / C / Holy Family, CO / 2023

The senior pitched to a 1.41 ERA across 69.1 innings in 2023 while striking out 125 batters along the way. Syverson allowed 41 hits and walked 23 batters on his way to a 10-1 record this spring. 

Lucas Weaver RHP / SS / Fruita Monument, CO / 2024

Weaver held down a 1.73 ERA in 2023 while making 82 hitters whiff across his 56.2 innings of work. The junior only walked 18 batters and allowed 49 hits this year. Weaver was undefeated in 2023 thanks to a 10-0 record. 

Ben Leikam LHP / OF / Valor Christian, CO / 2023

Leikam was efficient in 2023 thanks to a 1.59 ERA at the 5A level across 39.2 innings pitched. The senior was able to strikeout 77 hitters while walking 35 and allowing 21 hits. Leikam held down a 6-1 record this season. 

Noah Scott SS / RHP / Broomfield, CO / 2023

Scott allowed just a 1.16 ERA this season while pitching 66.1 innings for his 5A program. The senior had 68 strikeouts, walked only 10, and gave up 52 hits. Scott had a record of 12-1 in 2023. 

Mason Bright RHP / OF / Severance , CO / 2023

Bright was 12-3 this season with a 1.81 ERA. The senior pitched 77.1 innings with 110 strikeouts while walking 22 and giving up 68 hits.  

 

INFIELDERS

Walker Martin SS / Eaton , CO / 2023

Martin hit for a .633 average with 50 hits, 75 RBI, 20 home runs, 4 triples, 11 doubles, and 64 runs scored in 2023. The senior also racked up 11 stolen bases and walked 33 times this spring throughout his 115 plate appearances. Walker had an outstanding 2.355 OPS this season. 

Chase Jaworsky OF / SS / Rock Canyon, CO / 2023

Across 112 plate appearances in 2023, Jaworsky hit to the tune of a .444 average with 36 hits, 12 home runs, 3 triples, 7 doubles, walking 20 times, and hitting in 30 RBI. The senior also was able to steal 13 bases successfully this season and posted a 1.644 OPS overall. 

Hunter Smolinski SS / 2B / Fruita Monument, CO / 2024

Smolinski held down a .606 average at the 5A level in 2023 while posting a 1.752 OPS. The junior racked up 43 hits across his 90 plate appearances while belting 4 homers, 6 triples, 10 doubles, walking 16 times, and having 30 RBI.

Matt Hansen SS / OF / Air Academy, CO / 2024

The junior hit .574 with a 1.865 OPS at the 5A level in 2023. Hansen had 39 hits across his 92 plate appearances while homering 8 times, hitting 4 triples, 10 doubles, walking 19 times, and racking up 37 RBI. Hansen also flashed some speed with 8 successful steals this season. 

Nate Hopkins SS / 2B / Legend, CO / 2023

Hopkins hit .551 in 2023 across his 91 plate appearances. The senior posted a 1.553 OPS with 6 home runs, 2 triples, 9 doubles, 34 RBI, and walking 12 times. Hopkins also stole 14 bases successfully during his 2023 campaign. 

 

OUTFIELDERS

Elijah Morgan OF / RHP / Lutheran, CO / 2024

Morgan hit to the tune of a .453 average with a 1.569 OPS and 11 home runs in 2023. The junior had 43 hits across 115 plate appearances while walking 16 times, swiping 13 bases, ripping 8 triples, 5 doubles, and racking up 50 RBI. 

Parker Murrow OF / OF / Chatfield, CO / 2023

Murrow hit .472 in 2023 to go along with his 1.277 OPS, 1 home run, 3 triples, 10 doubles, and 15 stolen bases. The senior walked 11 times and had 9 RBI. 

Christian Lopez C / LHP / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2025

As a sophomore, Lopez hit .448 at the 5A level with 25 stolen bases and a 1.079 OPS. Lopez had 2 triples, 3 doubles, 11 RBI, and walked 20 times across his 112 plate appearances in 2023. 

Ashtin Gilio 2B / OF / Alexander Dawson, CO / 2023

Gilio is a true switch-hitter who posted a .784 average, 1.810 SLG, and a 2.700 OPS in 2023. The senior dominated at the 2A level in Colorado, hitting 5 homers, 7 triples, 9 doubles, walking 30 times, and swiping 24 bases across 72 plate appearances. 

 

CATCHERS

Cashel Dugger C / 2B / Valor Christian, CO / 2023

Dugger hit for a .493 average in 2023 to go along with his 11 doubles and a 1.255 OPS across 87 plate appearances. The senior walked 19 times and racked up 33 hits in 2023. 

Noah Wicks C / RHP / Golden, CO / 2023

Wicks belted 16 home runs in 2023 en route to a .533 average and a 1.823 OPS. The senior posted 49 hits in 112 plate appearances with 2 triples, 10 doubles, 46 RBI, 16 walks, and 13 stolen bases. 

Brett Rozman C / OF / Palisade, CO / 2023

The senior hit for a .493 average this spring to go with 7 home runs and a 1.635 OPS. Rozman had 33 hits across his 83 plate appearances with 6 triples, 4 doubles, 26 RBI, 15 walks, and 11 stolen bases. 

 

UTILITY

Athan Kroll RHP / Valor Christian , CO / 2024

Kroll was 5-0 on the mound this season and posted a 3.47 ERA with 45 Ks in 34.1 innings pitched. The junior also hit for a .387 average with a 1.116 OPS. Kroll had 29 hits across his 92 plate appearances including 2 home runs, 3 triples, 6 doubles, 21 RBI, 15 walks, and 9 stolen bases. 

Sean Barta RHP / OF / Rock Canyon, CO / 2023

Barta pitched to the tune of a 1.73 ERA while going 8-2 this spring. The senior tossed 60.2 innings with 72 Ks and only 19 walks. Barta also posted a .442 average with a 1.495 OPS and 10 home runs at the plate. This two-way player had 34 hits across 93 plate appearances with 44 RBI, 3 triples, 7 doubles, 9 walks, and 6 stolen bases. 

Sean Togher 3B / 1B / Fort Collins, CO / 2024

Togher hit .538 as a junior at the 5A level in 2023. Sean also held down a 1.485 OPS with 4 home runs, 3 triples, 8 doubles, and 28 RBI in 93 plate appearances. Togher pitched to a 2.04 ERA with a 5-1 record this spring as well. The junior had 80 strikeouts in just 48 innings while walking only 17 batters. 

Boston Kellner SS / 3B / Pine Creek, CO / 2025

As a sophomore at the 5A level, Kellner hit for a .514 average with a 1.633 OPS and 6 home runs. Kellner had 36 hits across his 92 plate appearances, including 4 triples, 11 doubles, 29 RBI, 15 walks, and 8 stolen bases. We also saw Kellner pitch to the tune of a 1.87 ERA with a 7-0 record this spring. Kellner had 82 strikeouts in 52.1 innings while walking 24 and allowing 33 hits.  

 

FIRST BASE

JT Shank 1B / OF / Rock Canyon, CO / 2023

Shank posted a .383 average in 2023 to go with 6 home runs and a 1.286 OPS. The senior had 31 hits in 110 plate appearances with 2 triples, 7 doubles, 34 RBI, 28 walks, and 6 stolen bases. 

Matthew Rhoades 1B / LHP / Lewis Palmer , CO / 2023

Rhoades belted 15 home runs in 2023 with a .569 average and a hefty 1.971 OPS. The senior had 41 total hits in his 92 plate appearances, including a triple, 7 doubles, 52 RBI, and 14 walks.
