Dream To Attend Washington Complete For Bucknam

Micah Bucknam RHP / 3B / M.E.I, BC / 2021

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Micah Bucknam is living up to his promise as a child.

“My dream has always been to go there since I was a kid,” Bucknam said of the University of Washington where he recently committed. “I used to walk by there with my dad and I’d say, “I’m going to go there.’ Now I drive by and see the field and it hits me … I’m going there.”

The decision to attend the Pac-12 school, located two hours from home, came after an impressive showing at the Future Games.

“It’s been a crazy ride for sure,” explained the top-ranked 2021 player in British Columbia. “They first saw me at a tournament in Washington where I got on their radar. Then I went to the Future Games and had an experience of a lifetime.”

Michigan State, Kentucky, Stanford, Oregon, Louisiana at Lafayette, Elon, Campbell, Winthrop, Southern Illinois and Illinois State all showed an interest after the the M.E.I. High School junior topped out at 91 and sat 90 in the first inning of his performance at the PBR event in Georgia back in August.

“After my outing I had to make seven phone calls that night,” the 76th-rated junior right-handed pitcher in the nation reflected. “It was life changing.

“When I was deciding about whether to go there, my coaches told me before I went that it could change my life and it really has changed my life. I wouldn’t be here now without the Future Games.”

The 6-1 175-pounder admits it was different than other experiences he has had on the ballfield.
