4A Road to the Final 8

32 teams were in action on Saturday at 8 District sites.  Teams have to win 2 games in this single elimination format to advance to the round of 8.  Prep Baseball Report takes a look at the teams who reached the Final 8 and the road they took to get there. 

Mountain View
Mountain View got to the Final 8 by beating Roosevelt 10 to 0 in the first game last Saturday.  They were led by TJ Felton (2017) who went 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs, and knocking in 2, and by the pitching of Holden Bernhardt (2016) who threw 5 innings allowing only 2 hits to go along with 7 K’s. 

In the championship game Mountain View beat Palisade 5-4.  Down 4 to 2 going into the bottom of the 7th Mountain View put up 3 runs to win the championship. Mountain View’s Dylan Norsen (2017) went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s to lead the way.

Air Academy
Air Academy advances and will play Mountain View in the Final 8, they got there by first beating Silver Creek 8 to 7.  They were led by Tyler Cauthren (2016) and Mike Singleton (2016) who had 2 RBI’s each.

Air Academy then played Canon City for the District Championship winning that game by a score of 10-5.  Josh Dudden (2017) had a great day at the plate going 2 for 3 scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 more.  On the mound Mike Singleton (2016) pitched 7 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits, and struck out 11 hitters.

Valor
In the first game Valor beat Ponderosa 3-1 to advance to the championship game.  Valor’s Davis Heller (2019) went 7 innings allowing only 2 hits with 8 K’s and didn’t allow an earned run.

Valor then played Northridge with the winner moving on to the Final 8, and won 7-6 in the bottom of the 8th.  Valor’s Erik Ohman (2017) had 2 RBI’s as did Nyk Crumrine (2016) to lead the way.

Windsor
Valor and Windsor will go at in this Friday.  Windsor advanced by beating Weld Central 16-0 in the first game, and then in the championship game Windsor beat Pueblo Centennial 3-0.

In the championship game Windsor’s pitcher Jake Greenwalt (2016) pitched a great game giving up just 3 hits, 1 base on balls, and had 11 strike outs.

Erie
Erie came in as a 14 seed and beat Pueblo East 6-2, and then Niwot 5-1 to advance out of their district. 

Delta
Delta will match up with Erie on Friday.  Delta advanced by beating Durango 11-5 in the first game and then Pueblo South in the championship by a score of 7-3. 

In the first game Delta was led by Jasper Carmichael (2018) who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s.  In the championship game they were led by Tristan Brown (2017) who was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s.

Pueblo West
Pueblo West advances to this weekend by defeating Montrose 10-4 and then Thompson Valley 8-3. 

Longmont
Pueblo West and Longmont will square up this Friday.  Longmont a number 10 seed got there by beating Palmer Ridge 2-1, and then Lewis Palmer 4-3.  In the first game Longmont was led by Dagan Renck (2017) on the bump. Dagan pitched 7 innings allowing just 1 run to go along with 8 K’s.

In the championship game, Miguel Moroyoqui (2016), Mason Peterson (2016), and Kavan Andrew (2016) led Longmont by each driving in 1 run.
