Yesterday, we updated the class of 2020 Colorado rankings. Today, we return to reviewing the 2020 board by examining which prospects are making their state rankings debut. Continue reading on for a list of 10 new names that entered in the top 100 to add to your latest recruiting research, especially considering none of the following have yet to make a commitment to play at the next level.

When we last updated the 2020 board in April, we turned the list into a 125. Now, that list has expanded to 140 prospects, and no prospect debuted at a higher spot than 3B Connor Cummiskey of Heritage debuting at No. 15. 

Coming of a strong spring season, Cummiskey helped lead Heritage to their first 5A state championship appearance since 2004. Starting for the Eagles, Cummiskey hit .338 with 3 doubles, 3 triples and 1 HR. Recently at our Top Prospect Games, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP ran a 6.90 60. At the plate he hits from an open stance with a slow load on the pitch.  Good lower leg drive on the swing.  Hands come through the zone and create good whip.  Exit velocity was 90 mph.   In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts.  He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer.  Arm velocity was 82 mph with accuracy. On the mound, delivery is repeatable.  From balance he drives hard to the plate.  Arm is quick and over the top.  Fastball lived 82-83 mph with arm side run.  He mixed in a 69-70 mph curve with tight spin and 11/5 break.  

 

 

Left-handed hitter Isaac Smith earns a spot all the way to No. 19 on the list. The smooth hitting left-handed outfielder at 6-foot-3, 182 pounds has the ability to hit to all fields with power. Advanced bat speed with a level swing through the zone. Bat accelerates through the ball, and produced a 90 mph exit velo off a tee. From the OF arm velo is 81 mph. Also ran a 7.18 60 time. Expect Smith to be an impact player this spring. 

 

 

 

Sawyer Shepherd, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound right hand hitting RHP/1B out of Resurrection Christian impressed at the recent Top Prospect Games. Wide set up at the plate with a slow load on the pitch.  Weight and hands fire through the zone.  Swing path is uphill and he hits for power to all fields.  Exit velocity was 95 mph.  In the field he has good feet and instincts around the bag.  Glove to hand transfer was quick on balls to second base and arm played at 82 mph.  Delivery repeats, tall and fall type, lands square and stays on line and balanced. Arm action is loose and over the top. Fastball sat 83-85 mph, showed ability to command. Curveball has 12/6 shape, had bite with spin and shape, 74-75 mph. Last spring in 35 innings Shepherd struck out 50 batters. 

 

 

6-foot-7 RHP Spye Turnbeaugh turned heads at our recent Top Prospect Games, and enters the rankings at No. 29. Delivery repeats, smooth motion and mechanics to the plate.  From balance he drives to the plate with an over the top arm slot and good extension out front on the pitch.  He uses his 6-7 frame well to get the pitch on you in a hurry.  Fastball sat 81-83 mph with late arm side run.  Curve is thrown hard with tight spin and late 12/6 break and sat 71-74 mph.  Change up was his best secondary pitch with near fastball arm speed.  Pitch showed late sink in the zone and sat 73-74 mph.  He added a 74 mph slider with backdoor action. Turnbeaugh helped lead Arapahoe to the 5A Final Four in 2018 going 1-0 with a 0.51 ERA in 13 innings. Expect him to be an impact pitcher for Arapahoe this spring. HERE ARE SOME NOTES ON THE 2020 NEWCOMERS TO THE COLORADO RANKINGS. 

 

Benjamin Cole LHP / 1B / Mountain Vista, CO / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 38 / POS: 5 6-foot-2, 220-pound Left Handed Pitcher. Tall and fall delivery, directionally in line, square to home, athletic in extension and finish. Fluid, clean arm action, can get long, breaks hands early, quick out front, over the top slot, some effort throughout. Fastball was straight, slight run, ranged 78-80 mph. Curveball had 2/7 shape, breaks early out of the hand, 62-63 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, flashed sink in the zone, ranged 70-71 mph. Last spring, Cole was called up in the 5A State playoffs, and won two games for the Golden Eagles, one in the Final Four, helping Mountain Vista win their first 5A state championship.

 

 

Nate Bach 3B / 1B / Boulder High School, CO / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 67 / POS: 9 6-foot-1, 170-pound right hand hitting 3B/1B who ran a 7.65 60. At the plate he stands open with a long stride to come square.  Lower half is solid through the zone creating good pull side power.  Swing is long with extension out front.  Exit velocity was 89 mph. In the field he comes through the ball and stays square on his delivery.  Arm is accurate to the bag.  Arm velocity was 76 mph. On the mound he gets to balanced and falls to the plate.  Will benefit from a strong lower leg drive.  Delivery is from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball was 77 mph with good location in and out.  He added a 63-65 mph Curve with sweeping break.

 

 

Joel Arsenault SS / RHP / Arapahoe High school, CO / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 84 / POS: 15 6-foot-1, 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. Athletic MIF who ran a 7.20 60 with plus arm strength at 81 mph across the diamond. Also had an 83 mph exit velo off tee. A scrappy player that fits well into the Arapahoe program who made it to the 5A Final Four last spring. Expect to be an impactful player this spring. Also can spell innings with a lower 80's fastball.

 

 

Noah Berner OF / 2B / Rocky Mountain, CO / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 95 / POS: 19 5-foot-10, 140 pounds. Bats and throws right. Came away impressed watching him play this summer. Has range in the OF, and that was shown in his 6.98 60 time. Contact hitter at the plate who controls the zone.

 

 

Kyle Radi C / RHP / Wheat Ridge High School, CO / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 100 / POS: 16 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Bats and throws right. Athletic actions behind the dish, controls the game with leadership. Ran a 7.3 60 time. Pop-times off pitcher in between innings were 2.00 to 2.05.
