Doug Case Making a case For Himself

Doug Case is like most high school baseball players. He just wants an opportunity to play at the next level.

Case may be making a case for that path if he continues to improve like he did this summer.

The powerful 6-foot, 195-pound third baseman from Dakota Ridge High School enters his senior season with high hopes. That's because of his performances at showcases like the PBR Colorado Top Prospect Games in late July at Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village.

Case was arguably the hitting standout over both days of the event with a two-run triple, a single and two sacrifice flies, driving in four runs.

He claims that he needs to work on his opposite-field power but his triple was hit over the right fielder's head and one of his sacrifice flies was driven the other way.

"I'm a little weak going to the opposite field," Case said. "I need to continue to develop that."

PBR Colorado state director John Cackowski says this about Case: "Stands tall with a balanced stance, hands load back smoothly and has a short stride and strong lower half creating a short, uphill bat path with good extension and above average 83 mph exit velocity."

As a third baseman, Case has a strong frame. During drills, he threw 83 mph across the diamond from shortstop with over the top arm action with accuracy, according to Cackowski.

Case talked about his play in the summer and his future.

"I played with my high school team and we went to a few tournaments," he said. "I've been working on my defense. I'm not afraid of the ball, I'll body it up if it's hit toward me."My hands are pretty good at the plate. I feel like I can keep up with velocity."

Case is uncommitted but knows exactly what he wants to study in college.

"Criminal justice is my planned major," he said. "Both of my parents are engineers at their body shops."
