PBR Colorado Spotlight Game: Lakewood vs Columbine

By John Cackowski
Director of Scouting

Littleton, CO - Columbine 5 Lakewood 2

The Rebels and upstart Tigers entered the game playing their best baseball at the end of the Jeffco League season. Both teams entered the game 3-0 in the always tough 5A Jeffco League. It would be the first time in 15 years the Tigers have started league play 3-0. Junior pitchers Taylor Dye for Columbine, and Chase Powell for Lakewood pitched effectively the entire game. The Rebels would score first in the bottom of the 1st with singles by Tommy Gillman, and Chase Anderson, and then would add another run in the 2nd with two hits from Jeremy Sonderby and Garrett Keaney. Powell would settle down, and keep the game tight through 4. Dye on the other hand was tough on the Lakewood hitters. Dye would start the game with 3 shutout innings. The Tigers would cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the 4th when Braden Smith lead off the inning with a HBP, then would show off his speed going first to 3rd on a Casey O'Neill base hit. Ben Schechter would drive Smith in. That would be the only time the Tigers threatened in the game. Powell would leave the game in the 5th due to pitch count, and then the Rebels broke it open. Dye would pitch a complete game only giving up 5 hits and collected 5 K’s. The Rebels improved to 4-0 in the 5A Jeffco League, and 8-5 on the season. The Tigers fall to 3-1 in league, and are 7-5 on the season. Up next for the Rebels will be at Chatfield on 4/22, and the Tigers will travel to Ralston Valley on the same day.
