The Preseason All-State Invitational took place at Grandview High School over two weekends due to tough weather of both snow and 50+ mile an hour winds to welcome in the spring season here in Colorado.  Over the next several days we will break down individual performances at this event.  We began our look with the outfield position. followed by the catching position and now we look at the corner infielders.

Justin Olson 1B / LHP / Pine Creek, CO / 2018

6-foot-2, 200-pound left hand hitting 1B/LHP. Left hand hitter at the plate is an impressive presence.  Balanced stance with a double toe tap on the pitch.  Uphill swing path and quick hands and a 90 mph exit velocity.  Swing is repeatable with power.  Hit five homeruns during the live round. 






Nathan Mitchell RHP / 1B / Cherry Creek, CO / 2019

6-foot-4, 180-pound right hand hitting 1B/RHP. Right-handed hitter, Open stance, big leg kick trigger, solid balance. Short loose path, hands create bat speed, projectable traits at the plate. 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. During the live round he hit several balls hard into the gaps. Righty on the mound and throws from an over-the-top arm angle, above average arm speed. Toe lift to balance.  Arm is loose and over the top.  Fastball had late life and sat 83-85 mph.  Curve showed tight spin and late break at 69-73 mph.  He finished with a 76-77 mph change with late break down and in.






Taylor White 1B / ThunderRidge, CO / 2018

6-foot-3, 180-pound right hand hitting 1B/3B. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from a a back leg heavy, slightly open wide and tall set-up. Uses a big and smooth load with a long stride before launching his hands on a flat path through extension with bat speed, leverage, and length. In BP, shows a middle of the field approach with lift and pop, all barrels, 91 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows average feet with developing hands. Showed well at both 3rd and 1st, throws from a high ¾ arm slot with accuracy at 73 mph.

Jackson Bakovich RHP / 3B / Loveland , CO / 2019

6-foot-0, 180-pound right hand hitting RHP/3B.  At the plate he stands balanced with a long stride and big load on the pitch.  Hands come through the zone uphill.  Swing is repeatable and shows good gap to gap power.  Exit velocity was 86 mph.  Defensively has stays square through the ball.  Showed soft hands and a quick release.  Arm is from a high ¾ arm slot and was 78 mph across the diamond. Righty on the mound and throws from an over-the-top arm angle, average arm speed. Toe lift to balance point with average effort leads to some rhythm and helps land in line. Straight fastball averages between 79-80 mph. Curve was 69-72 mph with tight spin and late break in the zone.  Changeup was 69-70 with near fastball arm speed and late sink.






Joshua Hojnowski RHP / 3B / Grandview, CO / 2019

6-foot-3, 205-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch.  Uses a high leg kick to jump start the swing. Good lower leg drive on the swing.  Hands come through the zone and create good whip.  Exit velocity was 85 mph.   In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts.  He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer.  Arm Velocity was 68 mph. On the mound he is smooth through the windup.  Delivers from a high ¾ arm slot and falls off after his delivery.  Arm is loose with good extension out front.  Fastball sat 75-76.  Curve showed tight spin and 1/6 break and was 60-61 mph.  He finished with a 61-62 mph change.






Justin Kahn 1B / RHP / Denver Science & Tech Stapleton, CO / 2019

6-foot-4, 190-pound right hand hitting 1B/RHP.  Offensively he hits from a tall balanced stance.  Weight tends to stick on his back side.  Swing path is uphill and bat sweeps through the zone.  Exit velocity was 73 mph.  In the field he uses long strides to cover ground.  Arm is over the top and long.  Arm velocity was 69 mph.  Smooth mechanics on the mound with a sink and drive motion from balance.  Showed good extension out front on the delivery.  Arm speed was consistent on all three pitches.  Fastball was 70-72 mph.  He added a 55-58 mph curve with sweeping break and a 59-60 mph change.






Dillon Schroeder LHP / 1B / Grandview, CO / 2018

6-foot-1, 190-pound right hand hitting 1B/LHP. Balanced right hand hitter at the plate with a lift and place stride on the pitch.  Hands come through the zone on an uphill plane.  Showed quick hands and good barrel whip.  Bat stays in the zone for an extended period.  Exit velocity was 89 mph.  In the field he showed good instincts and actions on balls in the hole.  Good footwork around the bag at first base.  Arm is over the top and accurate and played 68 mph.  On the mound the lefty delivers from a high ¾ arm slot.  Motion is quick with a high leg kick.  Lower half drives hard to the plate.  Fastball has late run away and was 75-77 mph.  Curve showed sweeping break at 62-63 mph.  Change was his best secondary pitch and sat 64-66 mph with late sink.
