Q&A with 2022 Arizona commit, RHP Kenan Elarton

Chance Ubel
Intern, PBR Colorado

In November 2021, '22 Kenan Elarton RHP announced his commitment to Arizona University.

PBR Colorado took the time to sit down with the Valor Christian HS/East Coast Sox product to talk about why he chose Arizona University, the recruiting process and his experience over the years with PBR Colorado.

Q&A WITH KENAN ELARTON

Q: What was the recruiting trail like for you? Were colleges interested early on and how did you get on the college coaches radars?

Elarton: My recruiting process started later than most people.  I started to draw interest from schools the spring of my junior year.  To get on coaches radars I attended a PBR event that was based at my school, the Area Code tryout, and the Area Code games throughout that spring and summer.  Everything really started to pick up after the Area Code tryout.

Q: You are committed to Arizona, how did you connect with them and what was it like talking to their staff? Did you visit, and if so how was that?

Elarton: I first connected with Arizona after the Area Code games where they saw me pitch.  I knew immediately when I talked to their coaches that I wanted to play for them.  I visited this fall and loved the school and the exciting atmosphere surrounding the baseball program.

Q: What made you choose Arizona over other schools that gave you offers?

Elarton: I chose Arizona because of the experience of the coaching staff and their desire to win.  I loved all the coaches and Arizona has a good history of draft picks.

Q: Now that you have finished your recruitment process, do you have any advise for young '23s, ‘24s, 25’s or even ‘26s who have just started this process?

Elarton: I would say that everyone’s recruitment path is different so don’t worry about when you commit.  Some guys get recruited earlier than others but if you trust the process everything will work out in the end.  You can’t control what others do so don’t play the comparison game.

Q:  Lastly, out of all the PBR events you have attended in your career, what has PBR meant to you during your time playing baseball in Colorado?

Elarton: PBR really helped me to jumpstart my recruiting process and get things going.  Once I attended their event schools slowly started to trickle in to my recruitment process.
