Q&A with Stanford Commit Trevor Moore

Chance Ubel
Intern, PBR Colorado

Back in August 2020, Slammers/Mullen HS right-hander Trevor Moore announced his commitment to Stanford University, a strong PAC12 program in California.

Moore sat down with the PBR Colorado staff and talked about his recruitment process and the impact COVID-19 played for him and other high school athletes. The future Cardinal also touches on what impressed him about Stanford and offered some advice to young athletes entering the recruiting world.

Q&A with Trevor Moore

Q:  What was the recruiting trail like for you? Were colleges interested early on and how did you get on the college coaches radars?

Moore: In regards to recruiting, everything was jumbled and a little unorthodox in trying to navigate around the newest NCAA COVID-19 recruiting rules or other COVID-19 restrictions... Whether those being extended dead periods, quiet periods, or state mandates. My recruiting process started about midway through my sophomore year (a few months before anyone knew about Covid) when I paired with Lou Birch and Birch Prospects. From there, I started to find myself on coaches’ radars with a handful of calls, and it slowly progressed from there. Lou really helped my recruiting process take off, as he did a lot of the heavy lifting. As I entered my sophomore summer dodging COVID-19 restrictions, I had created solid relationships with coaches as well as amassing plenty of video with my parent's and Lou’s help. When the 2020 summer came to a close, I had the opportunity to commit to Stanford.

Q: On the topic of your commitment to Stanford, how did you connect with them and what was it like talking to their staff? Did you visit, and if so how was that?

Moore: I connected with Stanford through Lou’s connections. The Stanford coaching staff was always one of my favorite calls to make because of how personable and professional the conversations were directed. I got the chance to visit Stanford before I committed when I attended a camp in 2019, but my official visit was well after I committed and during my senior year. Both experiences were exceptional and much more exciting than I could have imagined.

Q: What made you choose Stanford over other schools that gave you offers?

Moore: I chose Stanford over other schools because its academic and athletic reputation, as well as its location and coaching staff. Stanford has always been a sort of dream school, but in all honesty, seemed out of reach until recent.

Q: Now that you have finished your recruitment process, do you have any advise for young '23s, ‘24s, 25’s or even ‘26s who have just started this process?

Moore: My advice for young '23s, ‘24s, ‘25s, or ‘26s looking to play college ball would be to focus on getting yourself ready for college baseball. That sounds simple and maybe way too obvious, but as I watch the speed and intensity of college ball, I know I have plenty of work still to do. On that note, I would also advise every younger player that the effort you put in off the field will impress when on the field.

Q: Lastly, out of all the PBR events you have attended in your career, what has PBR meant to you during your time playing baseball in Colorado?

Moore: PBR’s events and rankings have definitely played a roll in my recruitment. I would advise younger players to attend one or more PBR events during the course of their recruiting process.
