The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state.  While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

Over the coming weeks, PBR Colorado will introduce you to 2019 and 2020 players who have committed to this event.  Continuing  our look is No. 283 overall 2019 and No. 7 in Colorado, SS, Derek Shaver of Grand Junction High School.

PBR: Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:
Shaver:  I am a pitcher/infielder who loves to hit, play, who likes to have fun doing it.  I love baseball.

PBR: What would be your dream school to play baseball at? If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?
Shaver:  I want to play at a school where I'm comfortable around the Coaches, where they prepare me for my future, and we win!  I haven't committed but feel good about a couple schools.

PBR: What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?
Shaver:  Baseball wise, I can play anywhere, pitch, hit, and compete.  God blessed me with size too.   Off the field I feel I have strong character, morals, and want to do my best all the time.

PBR: What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?
Shaver:  The 3 things you bring to the field.  1.  Good attitude.  2.  Have fun.  3.  Compete your best daily.  From Coach Little at GJHS.

PBR: What does your off-season routine look like to prepare for the upcoming season
Shaver:  I play football, basketball, and baseball.  Starter on all three teams.  Baseball is my passion but all sports benefit me athletically.  I hit and throw every week.  I work out at Landow Performance when I'm in Denver and do the workouts at home too.

PBR: What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?
Shaver:  Touch third ever time I take field, never step on the lines.

PBR: What are your goals for:

This Season:  To win conference and advance far into playoffs.  Be all conference and all state.

Two Years:  Win a state title, be all conference and all state fielder and pitcher

Four Years:  Be starting on a D1 baseball team fighting for a championship and pursuing my education
