Q&A with recent Michigan commit, Cashel Dugger

Last week Colorado had its 9th commitment from this summer's Future Games team when 2023 C/2B Cashel Dugger announced his commitment to the University of Michigan.

Our staff took the time to sit down with the Valor Christian HS/Colorado Yard Dawgs product to discuss why he chose Michigan, the recruiting process and his experience over the years with PBR Colorado, including his time at the Future Games.

Q&A WITH CASHEL DUGGER

Q: You attended the Future Games this summer in Georgia. When you left the event and headed back to Colorado, what was your overall impression of the event?

Dugger: The PBR Future Games was a really fun event that had lots of good competition. It's always a blast playing with the best players around the nation and being able to compete with players that you have grown up playing against.

Q: What was the recruiting trail like for you before going to the Future Games, were you talking to any schools and did anything change following the Future Games with interest from college coaches?

Dugger: Yes, I was talking to some schools before the Future Games, but I was contacted by some more schools after following the event.

Q: You announced your commitment to Michigan last Thursday, tell us how you first connected with Michigan and what the process was like with their staff?

Dugger: I first connected with Michigan this past summer when they saw me play in a tournament. I fell in love with the coaching staff, as well as the school, which led me to go out to Michigan to check it out. From there, I knew that it was the right fit for me.

Q: Of all the schools you had offers from, what was it that ultimately separated Michigan from the rest of the pack?

Dugger: Michigan has an unbelievable coaching staff that does a great job of developing their players. I wanted to go to a school that knows how to develop players so I can hopefully go on to play at the next level after college. 

Q: Now that you’re past the recruitment part yourself, do you have any advice to any young ‘24s, ’25s or even ‘26s who are just beginning to enter this process?

Dugger: My advice to the younger players is that your time will come and if you keep working hard schools will notice the improvement. They want to see you get better every time they see you, so the only thing you can control is how hard you work.

Q: Lastly, you’ve attended eight PBR events over the years. What has PBR meant to you during your time playing baseball in Colorado?

Dugger: PBR has presented me with many opportunities and the ability to showcase my skills to coaches not only locally, but nationally.
