Rocky Mountain Defeats Chaparral 2-1

Coors Field - The Rocky Mountain Lobos and Chaparral Wolverines met for their annual non-league game at Coors Field on Tuesday with the Lobos coming out on top 2-1 in the low scoring affair.

Usually in these games teams try to rotate in as many players as possible to enjoy the experience. Today however the Lobos stuck to their plan, and rode the back of 2016 LHP Austin Alarid. Alarid was the star of the game. The left-handed pitcher pitched 6 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run and struck out 11. Alarid also drove in the first run of the game.
The Wolverines would use 5 pitchers in the low-scoring affair.

In the top of the first inning the Wolverines got two outs, but then 2017 SS John Sorensen reached on a single and was eventually driven in by Alarid. The Lobos also tagged on another run in the 3rd when 2017 2B Kalen Hammer reached on a single and would eventually come all the way around and score on a passed ball. That would be all the runs the Lobos would need to secure the victory.

In the top of the 6th inning the Wolverines would make it interesting. After striking out the first two batters of the inning, Alarid would give up a double to 2016 SS Aaaron Hamman. 2019 OF Bryce Matthews would drive Hamman in with a base hit, but that is as close as the Wolverines would get.

The Lobos are now 12-4 on the season and sit 15th in the 5A RPI rankings. The Wolverines are now 9-7 and sit 4th in 5A RBI rankings. Up next for the Lobos will be an important league game against the Legacy Lightning in Broomfield. The Wolverines will travel to Legend to play the Titans.
