The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state. While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

On October 28th PBR Colorado will be hosting the Unsigned Senior Showcase to be held at the Regency Athletic Complex at Metropolitan State College. This will be a great opportunity for players to get their profiles updated right before the early signing date. Over the last eight years this event has been a staple of the Prep Baseball Report schedule. Walk ups will not be accepted. The showcase will be featured on the Prep Baseball Report’s website, which is also subscribed to by more than 850 college coaches. Below are some top 2019 catcher still on the board from the state of Colorado 

 

Nolan Ackerman C / 3B / Chaparrel, CO / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 25 / POS: 3 Ackerman, a 5-foot-11, 160-pounder, plays hard behind the plate. He has recorded an in-game pop time of 1.9 seconds and throws 76 from the crouch. At the plate, the has a slightly open stance and is short to the ball. He’s a line-drive hitter with bat speed and runs the 60-yard dash in 7.3 seconds. Had a strong 2018 season leading the Wolverines with a .394 batting average and 26 hits.

Otto Jones C / 2B / Ralston Valley, CO / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 47 / POS: 5 5-foot-10, 170-pound right hand hitting C. At the plate hits from an open stance, double tap to trigger the swing, solid balance. Short loose path, hands create bat speed, projectable traits at the plate. Behind the plate, he has a loose arm action throwing from a high three quarter slot with carry on throws and accurate. Smooth transfer with quick feet in exchange to throw from behind the plate. The junior catcher for RV worked well behind the plate and collected 4 hits in 5 at bats, with three singles and a double, he squared the ball and seemed to be able to show excellent balance at the plate and good bat speed.

Nathan Madrid C / 2B / Bear Creek High School, CO / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 73 / POS: 6 An athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound catcher/MIF who ran a 7.16 60. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch.  Good lower leg drive on the swing.  Hands come through the zone and create good whip.  Exit velocity was 84 mph. Behind the plate he showed good athletic actions and soft hands while framing.  Moves well on balls in the dirt and arm is accurate to the bag.  Showed a quick glove to hand transfer and arm velocity was 73 mph.  Pop-times were 1.97-2.03.

Raul Villarreal C / SS / Arvada West, CO / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 89 / POS: 7 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. Leg kick stride, soft load. Uphill swing with bat speed. Bottom hand finish. Good extension through the hitting zone. 92 mph exit velo off the tee. Behind the dish showcases a strong arm at 74 mph with 1.99 to 2.07 pop-times. Can also play infield and showed good actions at SS with soft hands. Arm velo was 83 mph across the diamond.

Campbell Thurman OF / RHP / Cherry Creek, CO / 2019 Rankings  StateRank: 91 / POS: 15 6-foot-180-pound right hand hitting OF/RHP.  He has a simple set up and approach at the plate.  A short stride gets the swing going and he hits off a firm front side.  Bat travels level through the zone and hands are quick with whip.  Exit velocity was 85 MPH.  In the field he moves well to the ball and does a nice job on the transfer.  Arm velocity was 75 MPH from an over the top slot.  On the mound he works quickly.  A fast motion to get balanced and then he sinks and drives hard to the plate.  Does a nice job of throwing off two feet and downhill.  Good extension on his release.  Fastball was 81 MPH with command.  He also showed the hitter a 69 MPH curve with 11/5 break and a 73 MPH change with late downward movement.
