Unsigned Senior Showcase Outfield Analysis

The Prep Baseball Report Colorado Unsigned Senior Showcase took place Sunday October 28th at Metropolitan State College. Several prospects from Colorado and Wyoming were on hand to showcase their skills for the Prep Baseball Report Colorado/Wyoming staff.

Unsigned Senior Showcase Outfield Analysis

Elias Borjas OF / 2B / Lakewood , CO / 2019

Rankings StateRank: 92 / POS: 16

5-9, 135-pound athletic player who continues to impress every time we see him. Open stance with a smooth load on the pitch. Swing is uphill with bat control to all fields. Strong lower leg drive with an 80 mph exit velocity. Quick to the ball defensively, smooth actions and anticipation. Arm is over the top and plays at 78 mph. Ran a 7.05 60.

Garrett Clasen OF / LHP / Natrona County High School, WY / 2019

5-8, 145-pound left hand hitting outfielder. Simple set up at the plate. Small stride and short load on the pitch. Hands sweep through the zone. Opposite field approach at the plate. Exit velocity was 72 mph from the tee. Defensively he moves well and fields through the ball. Arm is over the top and accurate to the bag. Arm was 64 mph from the outfield. Ran a 7.60 60.

Matthew Delgado OF / LHP / Holy Family High School, CO / 2019

5-10, 189-pound two-way player who with a great feel for the game. Open stance at the plate with a high leg trigger on the pitch. Sinks a bit on his back side and swing is uphill. Did flash some pull power. Swing repeats and exit velocity was 80 mph from the tee. Defensively, he anticipates and gets in good position. Attacks the ball forward and delvers from a high ¾ slot. Ball has good carry and arm was 77 mph. Ran a 7.70 60. Max effort on the mound with a sink and drive motion. Lands in line with the plate and falls off a bit to the third base side on his delivery. Arm is over the top and can drop down on pitches. Consistent arm speed on all pitches. Fastball was 75-76 mph. Curveball sat 67-69 mph with 1/7 break. He added a knuckle curve for a third pitch with late bite and was 68-70 mph.

Demarques Ortega OF / RHP / Mountain Range High School, CO / 2019

5-8, 163-pound multi tool and positional player. Swing repeats at the plate. Hits from a crouch set up with a short stride and load on the pitch. Hands create good whip and swing is slightly uphill. Ball showed good carry to the gaps. Exit velocity was 77 mph from the tee. Defensively he showed a strong accurate arm. Arm played at 82 mph on the line to the bag. Showed good skill and anticipation and a quick glove to hand transfer. Ran a 7.86 60.

Jakob Porter OF / ThunderRidge, CO / 2019

5-10, 170-pound athletic player with a strong arm and quick bat. Porter ran an event best 7.00 and we have had him faster. His athletic ability shines at the plate with a simple set up, quick load and explosive hands at contact. Good lower leg drive and a slight uphill path had several balls hit hard in the gaps. Exit velocity was 90 mph. In the field he glides to the ball, shows smooth actions when fielding and delivers from an over the top arm slot. Ball has carry and accuracy and played at 84 mph.

Dayton Reese OF / 1B / Brighton highschool, CO / 2019

5-11, 145-pound left hand hitting outfielder. Wide stance at the plate with a quick stride and load on the pitch. Swing is level through the zone with good extension out front. Pull side hitter in the live round. Exit velocity was 82 mph from the tee. Defensively he can play all three spots in the outfield. Shows good instinct and smooth actions on balls to his left and right. Arm was accurate and played at 70 mph.
