2018 FTB Players on the Rise

Justin Burgess
Florida Area Scout

This past weekend’s tryout camp for FTB drew hundreds of talented players from all over the state, a few from other states, and a few from Puerto Rico. The players represented every class from 2016 down to 2019. Today, however, we will solely focus on the 2018 class and the top players who stood out for FTB.

Alec Sanchez SS, Providence HS 2018
The FSU commit continues to show why he is not only one of the top bats in the state, but one of the top bats in the country. The 5-foot-11, 180 pound infielder possesses a lean, athletic, and projectable body with strength. He shows soft hands in the field with quick, light feet and a short, loose arm action with average ML arm strength across the diamond. Alec has good rhythm at the plate and features a big leg kick for his stride that seems to always be on time and gives him extra juice. He has a nice swing plane and good bat speed with average ML power. Sanchez showed this weekend that he was not only the top hitter in the 2018 class at this FTB event, but one of the best overall hitters at the event.

Christian Robinson OF, Viera HS 2018
Committed to Florida, Robinson has an impressive body for a 2018 at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and with a strong, lean, and projectable frame. At the plate he shows good bat speed and the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. Even though this weekend he was not showing his usual power, he was still hitting hard line drives in the gaps consistently. His above average ML speed and good arm strength really puts him ahead of just about all 2018 outfielders. Christian is very fun to watch and could eventually be a five tool player.

Andrew Fenning OF/3B, Oviedo HS 2018
Fenning really stood out at the tryout with his 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame and his athletic actions. At the plate he gets a separation for his load, has a nice swing plane, hits consistent line drives, and the ball jumps off his bat. From the outfield he has a loose, over the top arm action with average ML arm strength. He definitely has the talent to play at the next level and will be an asset for both Oviedo and FTB this year.

Joel Brewer OF, Tampa Jesuit 2018
Brewer is a former three sport athlete who decided to focus on baseball within the last year. At 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, he possesses a lean, athletic, and projectable body frame with strength. He is quiet at the plate with a short, quick swing, good bat speed, and a nice swing plane. He stays balanced and doesn’t get beat in. Getting better extension through the zone will give him some more power and consistency even though he squares up the ball regularly. Joel shows a solid arm from the outfield and is at least an above average ML runner. Look for his game to improve this year as he will be getting more reps focusing on baseball.
