2018 Florida Unsigned Senior Games Positional Breakdown: Pitchers

Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

Lakeland, FL- On September 8th, the 2018 Florida Unsigned Senior Games took place at Henley Field which featured some of the top uncommitted 2019s in the state. Players participated in a pro-style workout followed by a game.

Over the next week, we will breakdown each player by position through report. Today, we take a look at all the pitcher's in attendance:

Brian Veniard RHP / 1B / Duncan U Fletcher, FL / 2019

Ultra projectable 6-foot-4, 185 pounds he has long arms and legs and shoulders to grow into. Mechanically, the front side works well and has strength, can get rotational at times, but when he works in line through extension the fastball has late life. Fastball ranged mostly 84-85 touching 87 mph. Showed a slider at 71-75 mph and when it was thrown harder it was tight and had some depth. Also featured a changeup at 79 mph. Struck out two in his two innings of work.  Overall, there is arm speed, strength and upside. Should be a very quality addition to a 2019 class that has a lot of upside.

Michael Phelps RHP / Durant, FL / 2019

5-foot-10, 180 pounds, he works with a simple delivery and throws from a high 3/4 slot. Lands in line, but can get rotational at times which led to an inconsistent release point. When he got to extension the fastball had some cut at 75-77 mph. He also threw a curveball at 63-65 mph and a changeup at 68 mph. Phelps struck out two in his two innings of work.

Luke Eady RHP / George Jenkins , FL / 2019

A long, lanky 6-foot-3, 165 pounds, he has a frame that could easily add 10-15 pounds. He works from a low 3/4 slot and the arm actions is a bit shouldered, but the fastball worked 77-81 with arm side life. As he adds strength and continues to incorporate the lower half, that velocity should jump. Also featured a slider at 66-68 mph. He pounded the bottom of the zone with the fastball and has upside with the frame.

Nicholas DiMiceli LHP / 1B / Clearwater Central Catholic , FL / 2019

A strong 6-foot-1. 195 pound left handed pitcher. Mechanically is very sound. He has a clean and repeatable delivery. Works down the mound well, lands in line and works downhill. The fastball worked 74-77 mph. Featured a slider at 70-75 and a changeup at 69 mph. Overall, threw strikes, changed speeds and created weak contact.

Nicholas Shumek RHP / Sunlake, FL / 2019

5-foot-11, 183 pound right hander. He has a very simple and clean delivery. The arm action is clean in the back. When he kept his fingers on top of the ball to extension, he worked downhill.  The arm action projects with the fastball currently sitting 81-84 mph and a curveball at 68-69 mph. Struck out two in his two innings of work and really like the arm action and ability to repeat.

Allen Martin C / RHP / Pace, FL / 2019

A stocky 5-foot-5, 175 pounds. He3 works from a 3/4 slot with a full arm swing. The lower half works well and lands with a clean foot strike and in line. Pounded the zone with a fastball at 76-79 mph that had arm side run and sink. Also spun a curveball at 66-67 mph. Overall, changed speeds and threw strikes, striking out three in two innings.
