College Crosscheck: Week Two Hitters

After spending Opening Weekend of The Scouting Trail driving back and forth on I-40 between Wake Forest and North Carolina State Universities, I decided to scout at just a single location in Week Two. With seven hitters in our Top 350 2019 Prospects where better to do this than at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta to see UCLA at Georgia Tech. As for tools and talent, here’s what I saw...
No. 143 Kyle McCann, C/1B, Georgia Tech- Strong, large framed catcher with raw power as his top tool. Showed a good positive move to the ball. Rotated his barrel to the ball with good extension. Got off balance at times with his lower half, but kept his hands back and separated well. Hit pitches hard even when he was fooled as evidenced by one-arming a changeup for a double off the right-center field wall during Sunday’s series finale. Defensively, he sits high with stiff hips and limited ankle flexion, but did get out of the stance fairly easily to block a ball in the dirt. Showed dependable hands, consistently catching the ball in the pocket, and average arm strength. This is his first full season behind the plate...
