I had the pleasure of attending Chet Lemons Juice Winter Camp Dec 27 & 28. As is par for the course, Chet had some very good young talent as well as some alumni who were trying to get some off season work in. Richie Martin, current University of Florida SS and potential 2015 first round pick was working out with the younger guys and certainly looked like a big leaguer to me. I look forward to following his progress next spring. Also Brady Singer, a 2015 RHP at Eustis HS got an inning of work in and was up to 92. I also look forward to watching him pitch next spring. The kids were also exposed to plenty of quality instruction from former ML players, Chet Lemon, Mike Milchin, Reggie Williams and current ML scout Harry Shelton. A great experience for these young guys. The first thing I noticed were an influx of middle infielders with pretty good actions. The following notes are from middle infielders in the 2016 class:
+ SS/2B Jarrett Pico (Palmer Trinity HS, 2016) is a 5-fot-11, 175 pound middle infielder with a lean loose athletic projectable body. Loose athletic actions in infield with good hands and plenty of arm for shortstop. Can play shortstop and second base. Loose quick bat with a good path. Good hand eye. Uses whole field. Bat will improve with added strength.
+ SS Harrison Ray (Lake Brantley HS, 2016) is a 5-foot-9, 165 pound shortstop with a loose lean athletic projectable body on a medium sized frame. Very good actions in infield with soft hands. Good instincts with good reads and angles. Very advanced defensively for a young guy. Plenty of arm for shortstop. Solid average major league arm. Very simple quiet approach at the plate. Some quickness in hands with a good path. Very good hand eye. Squares up a lot of balls and uses the whole field. Bat will continue to improve with physical maturity. Ran a 7.1, 60.
+ SS/2B Jay Charlston (Lake Brantley HS, 2016) is a 5-foot-10, 170 pound middle infielder with a loose lean wiry athletic projectable body. Very good actions in infield with soft hands. Good instincts with good reads and routes. Plenty of arm for that position. Has looseness and quickness in bat with a good path. Keeps bat in zone and uses the whole field. Some wiry strength. Very projectable kid. Bat will improve with physical maturity. Will play second base in high school behind a very good shortstop but can play shortstop in college.
+ SS/2B Camryn Williams (Gaither HS, 2016) is a 6-foot-2, 175 pound middle infielder with a loose lean athletic projectable body. Very good actions in infield with soft hands and plenty of arm for shortstop. Athletic projectable kid. Son of Reggie Williams former major league player. Has 2 older brothers currently in the minor leagues.
+ SS/2B Tanner May (Dr. Phillips HS, 2016) is a 6-foot-1, 170 pound middle infielder with a loose lean projectable body. Continues to show good actions with good hands and enough arm for shortstop. Very aggressive reads and angles. Comes and gets ball. Good instincts. Showed quickness with bat and good hand eye. Uses whole field. Plays with energy. Projectable kid. Whole game will improve with added strength.
