Florida Unsigned Spotlight

Every Friday National Scouting Supervisor Nathan Rode provides a roundup of insider recruiting information and commitments throughout the PBR coverage area: The Buzz. Click Here to take a look at this week’s National Buzz. With that in mind, let’s take an in depth look at some of the top unsigned prospects in the state of Florida with detailed scouting information.

Carlos Reyes, C, Hialeah, 2015
4/15/15 - 5-foot-10, 180 pound catcher with a physical body with strength. Flashed a plus arm the other day.  Also caught well – soft, supple hands.  Looked like a mostly opposite field bat, but w/at least some hitting ability and enough strength. Starting to get some interest from D-1 colleges. I think he can play D1, and could possibly be a late-round 2015 draft.

Anthony Gonnella, 1B, Riverview, 2016
2/24/15- 6-foot-4, 210 pound left handed hitting first baseman with a tall, lean, and strong frame with room to fill out. Swings lefty, throws righty. Soft hands and solid arm from first base. Slightly open at the plate with good rhythm, separation, and a small leg kick. Relaxed and quiet. Easy, short swing with loft. Good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat. Two home runs tonight against Bloomingdale.

Christian Del Castillo, OF, Belen Jesuit, 2016
2/24/15 - 5-foot-9, 150 pound outfielder with a live athletic coordinated body and an advanced left handed swing. Quick, whippy, compact swing that stays in the zone.  Solid at bats vs Pawelczyk (hard single up the middle off of a slider, K). Looks to be at least an above avg runner. Potential Division 1 guy.

Joe Bellini, SS, Edgewater, 2016
3/6/15 - 6-foot-2, 150 pound infielder with a tall loose lean projectable body. Good actions in infield with some softness in hands. Avg ML arm with decent carry. Plays with energy. Grinder type make up. Loose bat with quickness in hands. Will continue to improve with added strength. Good hand eye with a good path. Bat stays through zone. Avg type bat speed that will continue to improve. Power will come. Will be able to play all infield positions in college. Also catches. Went 3-4 with 3 hard hit balls off of a good arm.
