Future Games Recap: Team Florida Catcher Analysis

This week we will look back at our 2020 Future Games Team Florida roster. This group was full of talented 2022 and 2023 players. So far, we have already had 6 members of Team Florida commit to schools, with much more to come in the future.

Today we continue our Player Analysis with the catchers from Team Florida. We breakdown our three catchers with complete scouting reports from the event. Take a look.

Catcher Analysis

Schyler Arroyo C / 3B / Hagerty , FL / 2022

Positional Profile: C - Strong, stocky frame with above average athleticism. He has a chance to be a true above average defender and solid offensive producer at the next level. Has since committed to Bethune-Cookman.
Body: 5-foot-9, 172-pounds. Stocky, strong lower half.
Defense: 1.93-2.00 pop times. Quick concise footwork, fields with momentum moving forward.
Arm: RH. C - 74 mph. Short arm action, loose and quick out front.
Hit: RHH. Balanced stance, weight on the inside of the legs. Hands and elbow straight back. Slight leg kick and negative movement in the hands. Clears the hips smoothly, keeps the barrel level and in the zone for a long time.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity.
Run: 6.83 runner in the 60. Smooth strides, agile.

Hayden Perry C / 3B / Episcopal, FL / 2022

Positional Profile: C/3B - Really strong catch and throw ability with solid receiving and blocking actions. There is also some power potential offensively.
Body: 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Stocky, strong frame.
Defense: 1.94-2.07 pop times. Big, durable backstop. Fluid to the knees and receives in the center of his body, presenting well.
Arm: RH. C - 76 mph. Short, quick arm. True carry on a line. Above average arm strength.
Hit: RHH. Wide stance with weight in the legs. Rhythmic movement in the hands, Rocks back in the load, stays quiet and simple with an efficient bat path and strong, two-handed finish.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity.
Run: 7.42 runner in the 60. 

P. Alex Sosa C / 2B / Viera, FL / 2023

Positional Profile: C/2B - Very athletic catcher with above average hands. The defensive tools play, but the left-handed bat also has a very high ceiling. Has since committed to NC State.
Body: 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Strong lower half, young in face room to grow.
Defense: 2.05-2.16 pop times. Nimble and agile behind the plate. Tough and durable with solid receiving skills and smothers dirt balls.
Arm: RH. C - 74 mph. Quick, short arm action. Good follow through and carry to the bag.
Hit: LHH. Wide base with a big leg kick trigger.  Gets into the lower half well, creates some length with rotation. Creates above average bat speed and overall gets into good hitting positions. Has a chance for future power.
Power: 86 mph exit velocity.
Run: 7.90 runner in the 60.
