Friday night featured a highly anticipated matchups between two of the top teams in the Tampa Bay area with Calvary Christian traveling to face Jesuit. Both teams had their aces on the hill, but it was the bats that became the story of this game.

Landen Maroudis drew the start for Calvary, but his day didn’t last very long. Up to 95 in the first, Jesuit got the Maroudis early, giving up six runs on seven hits in the first inning.

For Jesuit, Wes Mendes got the ball. He was up to 91 going 3.2 innings. He worked three clean innings before giving up four runs in the fourth inning.

Offensively, Jesuit had the bats working all game long. In the first, DJ Pirela led things off with a single, followed by a Wes Mendes single. Jake Kulikowski drove in Pirela with an RBI single. Grant Jordan followed with a sac fly to score Mendes. Later in the inning, Noah Sheffield doubled for another RBI. Vincent DeCarlo hit a fly ball to right field that snuck out the park for a two-run homer, and Clay Thompson doubled in a run. Jesuit put up six in the first to go up 6-0 early.

Jesuit wasn’t done scoring. In the second, they added two more on a
Noah Sheffield double. In the third, Jacob Lozano led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Jesuit led 9-0 after three.

In the fourth, Calvary was able to get on the board. After two walks,
Justin Mayes singled in their first run. Four more walks led to three more runs as Calvary cut the score to 9-4.

In the fifth, Calvary would make it a one run ballgame. Blake Opie launched a two run homer, which was followed up with another two run homer by JT Long. Calvary would make it 9-8.

In the bottom of the 5th, Jesuit would look to answer. After three walks,
Wes Mendes would come up with bases loaded and two outs. Mendes delivered with a three-run triple to make it 12-8. A few batters later, Grant Jordan singled to drive in two more runs. Jesuit led 14-8 after five.

In the sixth, Calvary was able to get a run back.
Blake Opie doubled down the left field line to drive in his third RBI of the game.

Jesuit would answer right back in the bottom of the sixth. Vincent DeCarlo hit his second home run of the game, this time a solo shot to left to make it 15-9.

That would be all as Jesuit went on to win this one 15-9.
