For players with ties to high schools across the Old Line State, the 2021 MLB draft will go down as one of the best in history. The change to just 20 rounds this year has made that much harder to hear ones named called and in looking back through history; since 1987 when the "Rule 4" or MLB Amateur Draft was consolidated into just one draft/phase, this year marks just the fourth time at least eight players were selected in the top 20 rounds. Eight players with ties to Maryland high schools were also selected inside the the top 20 rounds in 1987 and 2005 while the record for the most players drafted inside the top 20 rounds with roots to high schools across the state was set in 1994 when 11 players were selected.

Furthermore historically speaking, Jackson Merrill became the 44th player from the state of Maryland selected in the first round and first taken in the first round since 2007 when Brett Cecil was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays out of the University of Maryland with the 38th pick overall in the Supplemental First Round. He is also the highest selected player from the state of Maryland coming out of high school since 2021 when Mount St. Joseph's Gavin Floyd was selected in the first round with the fourth overall pick by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Note: We have also included players selected from Delaware as well as any free-agent signings to this list. Each highlighted player's name is linked to their MILB player profile so you can follow how they are doing currently and in the future. Those not linked do not have MILB player profiles yet so we will continue to update this page.
