Continuing to break down PBR Florida’s Preseason All State event, On the Hunt, takes a look at some of the top players in the 2020 class who really stood out at the event. The state of Florida has produced heaps of talent in the past, and early glimpses into what it’s 2020 class holds appears quite promising. Included in the list of seven players are three top level catchers, two athletic two-way prospects, a power hitting first baseman, and a frontline right-handed pitcher.

Carson Beck, 3B/RHP, Providence HS, FL, 2020
Beck is already 6-foot-4, 196-pounds, but his frame is wiry and athletic, and still has room for a lot of weight to be added. Beck stood out at PBR Florida’s Preseason All State event with a strong arm and gifted bat that produced an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, Beck was balanced in a slightly crouched stance, and utilized a leg kick to trigger his hands back before driving them through the zone on a level plane. When at his best, Beck’s head remained perfectly still and he worked line drives into both gaps as well as off the L-screen. With his wiry athleticism, it is easy to project Beck developing power sooner rather than later. In the field, he showed off a strong (84 mph) arm from shortstop, and projects as a corner guy at the next level. Hopping on the mound, Beck utilized his strong arm to sit 82-84 with his fastball on the day. Casting his arm back with a medium swing, Beck threw consistent strikes with his fastball, and repeated his high ¾ arm slot well. He impressed with his quick hand speed out in front and the ball appeared to jump at the plate.  Beck also flashed a firm, 74-76 breaking ball that shows tight spin, and has a chance to be a swing and miss pitch in the future. Overall, Beck is a name for recruiters to follow, and has a chance to be an impact two-way player at the next level.
