PBR Florida
PBR Florida Staff

Our Prospect ID events are to evaluate players in a pro-style workout and bullpen setting. There are a lot of talented players that have come through and this event was no different. From 2020s to 2023s, there were a lot of talented players in attendance. Today we take a look at the play analysis of all who attended starting with the Top 5 standouts followed by the best of the rest.

Top 5

Jack Cue OF / Archbishop McCarthy, FL / 2021

One of the big stand outs on the day with his speed and power combination. Opened eyes to start the day with a 6.58 60 yard dash and the highest OF arm velocity at 84. Actions in the OF can be cleaned up, but possesses above average athleticism. A little jumpy with the lower half to start his BP session, but slowed down and got in rhythm hitting several balls to the wall or over. Lightning-quick hands really stand out, notching 91 mph on his exit velocity. Big upside prospect.

Roy Waterman C / 3B / Varela, FL / 2020

Strong kid at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. Ball jumped off his bat to all fields in BP with great bat speed. Line drive approach with present gap to gap pop that plays. Defensively, popped an event best 1.96-2.12. Clean transfer with above average feet and arm strength. Quick hands work both offensively and defensively. 7.56 60 runner. Calm confident approach throughout the day in all aspects.

Austin Alexander SS / 2B / Miami Sunset , FL / 2020

Big frame with room to fill out. Ran a 7.33 60 yard dash. Solid feet and quick smooth arm that generated 86 across the infield. Long levers. Good feel to swing and uses lower half well. Barrel lags a bit, but whippy, present bat speed creates consistent hard line drives. 85 MPH off the bat. Projectable frame with feel to hit and an above average defensive ceiling.

William O. Garcia C / 1B / John A. Ferguson, FL / 2020

Solid frame at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds. Quick hands, great transfer and average arm led to 2.08-2.15 pop times. The feet worked well behind the plate, creating good rhythm and drive on throws to bases. Present strength with above average pop in his right-handed bat. 92 exit velocity was good for top spot on the day. He is already an intriguing follow, but improved arm strength would make him a high caliber prospect.

Julian Hernandez C / 3B / Keys Gate, FL / 2023

Incoming freshman who stands out as a player to watch going forward. Defensively, his present athleticism shows behind the plate. Some quick twitch, hands work and has a quick and clean transfer with pop times in the 2.03-2.2 range. Offensively, there is bat speed for his class and is quick and level through the zone. Present tools with very high ceiling.

Best of the Rest

Nick Ditas 2B / SS / Barbara Goleman, FL / 2020

Stands at 5-foot-8, 149 pounds and ran a 7.52 60 yard dash. Defensively, he worked under control with present rhythm. Hands work as he fielded the ball cleanly and with confidence, showed a clean transfer and topped at 70 mph. Offensively, he stands tall in the box and has a small leg kick trigger. The swing is simple and hands work freely, creating a level path through the zone and a line drive swing. Some present athleticism with bat to ball skills that can improve with strength.

Pedro Castillo C / OF / G. Holmes Braddock, FL / 2020

Strong athletic build at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds. Solid arm in the OF topping at 74 and keeping the ball low. Displayed good accuracy and carry on his throws. Feet were average in the OF and behind the plate. Hands worked well on transfers on pops, but could use lower half more to keep improving on his consistent 2.05-2.15 times. With the bat, he uses a strong low base to create a level swing path. More back knee and hip drive will allow for his solid 80 MPH exit velocity to jump to the mid 80s.

Gonzalo Garcia SS / 2B / G. Holmes Braddock, FL / 2020

Long and athletic with a 6-foot-1, 145 pound frame and ran a 7.29 60 yard dash. Feet create a good rhythm at SS working through the ball. Possesses average arm strength currently, but will add as he puts on weight. Smooth actions on offense and defense. Swing is loose with good extension and lower half drive. Creates above average leverage on offense with a super lean body. With added strength, arm and speed will improve, along with his ability to use his good easy swing to drive the ball into the gaps.

Christopher Dorta C / OF / Mater Lakes, FL / 2020

A stand out on the day with athleticism. Can run for a catcher with a 6.99 60 yard dash. Defensively, there’s some quickness in the hands that led to a 2.08 pop time. Footwork can be improved overall. Offensively, he has a strong base and a short swing. The quick hands work on offense as well, but has a slight tendency to get long. Hit 81 MPH on his exit velocity.

Danny Diaz SS / 3B / American Heritage Plantation, FL / 2021

Displayed quick, smooth movements throughout the day on offense and defense. Above average hands complement an average to above average arm. Throws were accurate with some carry topping at 81. Nice quick transfer and release on the backhand. Ran a 7.27 60 yard dash but plays faster. Offensively, good bat to ball guy. Showed a calm approach at the plate with a short, compact swing. Gets weight through the ball and has a good patient rhythm. Back elbow can disconnect at times. Showed good barrel ability with some gap to gap pop potential.

Noah Chance 1B / RHP / Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy, FL / 2021

Stands 6-foot, 175 pounds. Strong kid that can pick it at 1B. Solid arm and average feet on defense. Moves well for his size. On offense, he displayed an exit velocity of 85 using a good lower half with some present bat speed. Had good balance and some pop to the pull side.

Christopher King SS / RHP / Gulliver, FL / 2022

Rising sophomore at 5-foot-11, 145 pounds. Smooth hands at SS, feet will come with growth. Creates some bat speed with naturally quick hands and works with a line drive approach. Slight cast of the hands can be fixed and everything will become more connected. Adding strength will help the all around game, as the feel and actions are there.

Ian Lima C / C / Archbishop Coleman Carroll, FL / 2020

Stocky build at 5-foot-8, 160 pounds. Behind the plate, displayed a solid base and quick transfer. Received smoothly. Short and quick arm, threw down to bases at 72. Impressed in BP rounds with a simple quick swing. Barreled balls consistently and worked well up the middle. Good extension towards the pitcher with feel and rhythm. Lets the ball get deep and extends through. Good makeup.

Angel M Torres OF / 1B / G. Holmes Braddock, FL / 2020

Big frame at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. Projects more at 1B than OF because of the arm and above average hands in the infield. Strong quick bat that has some present pop in it. Gets forward well with good back knee drive. Projectable body with some present strength.

Richard King RHP / RHP / Gulliver, FL / 2020

Tall lean right-hander stands 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. Clean, loose arm. High ¾ slot sitting 78-81 with some arm side run and sink. Creates a great angle with big 6-foot-4 frame. His separation and long stride work on time. Athletic and drives well with lower half. 2-8 CB is slow at 60 mph with above average break. Spin can be improved. Body and feel to pitch make for some good upside.

Avery Thomas SS / 3B / Deerfield Beach, FL / 2020

Good long frame at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Smooth actions on defense and good carry on a consistent 80 MPH arm across the infield. Athletic with plus feel. Ran a 7.18 60 yard dash. Offensively, he barreled up well and registered an exit velocity of 86. Swing has decent connection and separation. More lower half and extension would add more pop to an already whippy, quick bat.
