St. Thomas Aquinas Knocks off West Broward in a Wild 10 Inning Game.

Doug Freeman
PBR Florida Executive Director

Tuesday afternoon saw a matchup between a pair of Miami recruits on the mound in 2022 Sebastian Perez for West Broward and 2024 Anthony Ciscar for St Thomas Aquinas and neither would disappoint.

Perez looked the part from the get go. He has continued to lean out a large, strong frame. He works with a quality tempo and mostly compact, half circle arm swing. The fastball sat mostly 90-92 throughout the start, but did spin consistently in the 2400-2500 range and up to 2590. He would attack both sides of the plate with the fastball, consistently getting swings and misses. He also showed a feel to spin the curveball at 75-78 mph that also spun in the 2400-2500 range as well. He would also occasionally mix in a changeup at 80-83 mph.

Perez would mostly cruise through five innings, striking out nearly two per innings. But would struggle some in the sixth and a couple untimely errors led to a pair of runs. Ultimately, Perez would strike out nine allowing the two unearned runs on five hits.

The underclassman Ciscar would match Perez’s efforts throughout the day as well. Although not up to the same velocity yet, the lean and ultra projectable right-hander competed with three quality pitches. The fastball mostly sat 84-86 mph with some sinking action and consistently worked down in the zone. He also consistently mixed a slider at 74-76 mph and a changeup at 76-78 mph. He would work around 5 errors to only allow one run in five innings of work.

Anthony Ciscar

West Broward would take the lead early on a throwing error and the score would remain 1-0 until the sixth when an error from West Broward followed by a single from Roger Vergara would give St Thomas Aquinas a late 2-1 lead.

Although another error, one of seven on the day for St Thomas, would eventually lead to a tie game in the bottom of the sixth and we would head into extra innings. The score would remain tied until the 10th inning, when a two RBI single from Frank Chiliberti would give St Thomas a 4-2 lead in the top of the 10th. West Broward would try to come back in the bottom with two outs as a single with runners on first and second would allow one run to score and as the throw in got away from the catcher, the second run attempted to score and would be thrown out at home to end a wild game against the two quality teams.

Final Score in 10 innings

St. Thomas Aquinas - 4
West Broward - 3
