Team Mid-Atlantic has arrived at Grand Park outside of Indianapolis for the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Future Games. On day two, Team Mid-Atlantic played its first of three games against Team Select. Pitchers threw 1-2 innings and had their stats and video taken and players got the opportunity to hit and field in game situations in front of college coaches. Here are some notes and video on players who we thought had a strong day.

Nathan Cmeyla C/2B Briar Woods 2020
Cmeyla followed up his good workout day with a good first game. Defensively he played second and caught. He made an athletic diving stop in the 3.5 hole at second on grounder that saw him take a good angle and show off his lateral quickness to keep the ball in the infield. Behind the plate he showed his receiving skills and did very well catching pitchers he has not worked with before. Offensively, Cmeyla went 1-2, in his first at-bat put a good swing on the ball and just missed it in. His second at bat was impressive as he ripped a single to left, on the pitch he was geared up for a fastball but did a good job of recognizing the curveball that was thrown and adjusting mid-pitch to it, maintaining balance so that he could stay back and put a good swing the ball with two strikes.

Thomas Trinca OF Centreville 2020
Trinca had a good game offensively to build off of a strong showcase day, going 1-1 with a walk. His single came in his first at-bat, he showed his quick hands and bat speed, yanking his hands inside the ball and staying short to drive a single up the middle. Hammered the ball and had some whip and extension on his swing.

Christian Ficca C Gonzaga 2020
Ficca had a good day offensively and put together two good at-bats. In both at-bats he showed the ability to work into a plus count and then put aggressive swings on the ball. In the video, the first swing was from his first at-bat, he is up in the count 1-0 and gets after a fastball, showing his bat speed. The second swing in the video is the very next pitch of that at-bat, and he does a good job of adjusting mid-swing to keep his hands inside the ball and get barrel on it, punching a single to left. In his second at-bat, Ficca worked into a 3-0 count and the third swing in the video is his swing at that 3-0 pitch, again he shows aggressiveness and a quick bat, just fouling the ball straight back. Ficca has a very lanky tall frame with a lot of projection left to it and a chance to grow into some good power.

Jake Gelof SS/RHP IMG Academy 2020
Gelof showed his potential on the mound, running his fastball up to 87-88 and topping 89. His curveball was 77-79. Also showed his ability at the plate, in his second at bat worked deep into a count and fouled a few balls off while behind in the count before barreling a ball for a sharply hit ground out to third.

Trey Carter OF/RHP Carlisle 2020
Carter built on a strong showing from showcase day that saw him hit 95 from the outfield. His fast arm was on display again today when he got on the mound. Carter's fastball was 88-92, touching 93. Showed a curveball that was 75-76.
