Orlando, FL – The Miller School of Albemarle, Virginia came to town this week to face The First Academy.  Former MLB closer Billy Wagner is the skipper for the Miller School, who won the State Championship last year in their classification.  They still have a talented group led by Clemson commit Adam Hackenberg and Duke commit Jeremy Wagner.  TFA is led by Florida commits Joseph Charles and Kendrick Calilao.

The Miller School jumped out to an early two run lead in the first when third baseman  Henry Hardie doubled on a 0-1 count scoring two runs.  Hardie had a day at the plate going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s at the plate. 2019 RHP Bryce Fisher got the start on the mound for TFA after Charles was a late scratch with a finger injury.  Fisher worked his fastball at 84-86 mph over his four innings of work. Fisher would leave the game trailing 3-0, giving up six hits and striking out five.  

2020 Ethan Chenault started on the mound and picked up the win for The Miller School.  He went four strong innings allowing only one hit. Chenault located a 83-84 mph fastball, complimented by changing speeds with a good high school level curve ball and change-up. The arm really worked clean on a projectable frame and would be a follow for the 2020 class.

The Miller School erupted in the sixth inning off reliever 2019 Sutton Hardy of TFA.  Hardy is a tall projectable left handed pitcher that was living at 82-84 mph with his fastball, but struggled locating the off-speed stuff, which allowed The Miller School to sit on his fastball. They would put up six in the sixth inning to put them up 9-1.  This would end up being some important insurance runs as TFA would try to mount a comeback in their final two at bats.

Trailing 9-1, the Royals scored seven runs in the failed comeback on a single by 2019 Chenar Brown in the sixth, a double by Kendrick Calilao, and singles by Brown and Matthew Edwards in the seventh.    After only getting one hit as a team through five innings, the Royals racked up nine in the final two innings of play.  The hit parade was led by 2019 Florida commit Kendrick Calilao, going 2 for 4 with a big double in the seventh inning. The Miller School totaled twelve hits, led by Adam Hackenberg, with two hits.  Hackenberg is the brother of NFL QB Christian Hackenberg and possesses a plus arm from behind the plate.
