2/21/22

North Carolina transfer Joe Charles was dominant in his one inning of relief, showcasing a two pitch arsenal with a fastball up to 95 and a hard 81-82 mph curveball. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-hander sat down the Dukes in order on 13 pitches, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

10/12/18 - North Carolina commit. 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, athletic, strong projectable frame. Athletic, clean delivery, does good job repeating and staying on-line. Found the strike zone consistently. Fastball sat 90-94 mph. Mixed in a hard curveball at 79-81, downer action. Worked a clean first inning, getting a groundout and two strikeouts.

10/24/17- The 6-foot-2, 180-pound North Carolina recruit struggled with strikes. His fastball ranged between 90-92 mph, peaking at 93.5, with a hard 80-82 mph curveball with downer action. In two innings, Charles allowed three hits, two runs, struck out three, walked two and hit two batters. He threw 39 percent strikes.

10/15/17- North Carolina recruit. One of the top 2019 arms may have been one of the most impressive arms in attendance. Looks to have continued to fill out and has a very strong lower half and overall strength. The ball jumps out of his hand, working 92-93 touching 94 mph with late, riding life. The arm is extremely quick with a very high upside. Threw a curveball at 78-79 mph. Everything works and should continue to improve as he looks young still and will continue to grow.

10/23/16- The 6-foot-2, 175-pound North Carolina commit used plus arm speed to generate a fastball that ranged from 89-91 mph, and a slider at 76-77. Charles utilizes a simple, slow paced delivery before the ball explodes out of his hand towards the catcher after a very short arm swing.

9/8/16- Committed to the University of North Carolina.

3/17/16 - 6-foot-2, 180 pound right hander with a strong athletic build and strength in the lower half for a young guy. Loose live easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Hides ball in back and lands across the body. Has a high front side. Fast ball was 83-85 mph with heavy arm-side boar and late sink. Got a lot of swings and misses from right handed hitters. Curve ball was more of a downer with depth at 69-71 mph. Creates a tough angle against right handed hitters. Very good young arm with a lot of upside. Stuff will continue to get better with physical maturity.

3/4/16 - 6-foot-2, 180 pound right hander with a strong athletic build and strength in the lower half for a young guy. Loose live easy working arm at a high ¾ arm slot. Hides ball in back and lands across the body. Has a high front side and yanks ball off line a lot. Fast ball is 84-86 mph with heavy arm-side boar. Very good arm-side life. Curve ball was a ¾ breaker with occasional depth at 69-71 mph. Creates a tough angle against right handed hitters. Yanked a lot of balls glove side out of the zone the first 2 innings but settled in and threw a nice game. Very good young arm with a lot of upside. Stuff will continue to get better with physical maturity.

10/25/15- Sat 82-85 mph with an easy delivery and loose high 3/4 arm action. More to come with strength and maturity.
