PENSACOLA, FL - The University of West Florida hosted their 11th annual Fall JUCO Bonanza October 4th through the 7th at Jim Spooner Field. This event brought together 12 Junior Colleges from the Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama. PBR Florida was on-hand for the entirety of the event, providing coverage. Continuing reading to view notes, reports and video on nearly 20 prospects from Tallahassee CC (FL), Central Alabama CC (AL) and Northwest Florida State College (FL).

Tallahassee CC


Nolan Daniel, RHP, Tallahassee CC (FL)
6-foot-4, 240-pound right-handed pitcher, thick build, strength throughout frame. Drop and drive delivery, strides towards third, landing closed, finishes in an athletic position.  Short arm action, high ¾ slot, cross-body, good rhythm. Fastball sat 87-89, missed barrels. Curveball, tight spin, 11/5 shape, 79-80.

Zane Stephens, RHP, Tallahassee CC (FL)

6-foot, 160-pound right-handed pitcher, athletically-built, loose actions. Short, athletic arm action, accelerates quickly out front, ¾ slot. Tall and fall delivery, good rhythm, works on target towards home, lands square. Fastball was up to 87 mph with some late run and sink. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, feel for, 76 mph, induced multiple swing and misses with.

Trent Jeffcoat, MIF, Tallahassee CC (FL)

6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder, athletic build. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, small load back, maintains great balance throughout. Simple approach, line drive hitter with barrel control. 4.19 down the line on a groundout to second. Defensively, fields position athletically, soft hands, fluid footwork, quick on exchanges to release. Arm works athletically, over-the-top primarily, throws are true and accurate.

Central Alabama CC


Jeremy Almaguer, MIF, Central Alabama CC (AL)
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Hit in the leadoff spot for Central Alabama CC, took an approach to see as many pitches as possible in first at-bat against Thomas Farr, a tough out, fouled off multiple two-strike pitches, including 94-95 mph fastballs. Line drive hitter with barrel control, looks to put the ball in play.

Trent Thrasher, RHP, Central Alabama CC (AL)

6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, strong, physical build, room for added mass. Quick two-step, tall and fall delivery, works towards home, lands square, finishes crossing over. Arm action is short and clean, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 90-91, Slurve-like breaking ball, feel for.

Northwest Florida State College


Thomas Farr, RHP, Northwest Florida State (FL)
6-foot-1, 190-pounds, athletic build, broad shoulders, strength throughout frame. Tall and fall delivery, sits on back-side at balance point, breaking back leg slightly, leads with hip towards home, lands toe-closed, pivoting to square, finishes athletically. Arm works loosely, short, clean swing accelerates quickly, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 94-95 in first inning, settled in at 91-94 in the following two innings, showed armside run and ability to locate to either side of the plate and low in the zone. Changeup, heavy sink, late life, thrown aggressively, 85-88. Curveball, tight spin, depth, sharp action, got swing and misses with, 81-82. Slider, 10/4 shape, hard, late action, 88 mph has makings of a future out-pitch.

Jake Randa, OF, Northwest Florida State (FL)

Mississippi State commit. 6-foot-1, 195-pound left-handed outfielder, strong, athletic frame. Offensively, gap-to-gap approach, can drive the ball to all fields, pull-side power, as evidenced by a two-run home he pulled on the very first pitch he saw. Aggressive at the plate, hands work loose and easy through the zone, finds barrels consistently.

Conor Angel, RHP, Northwest Florida State, (FL)

6-foot-4, 190-pound, lean, lanky right-handed pitcher. Works from the stretch-only, short arm action, show on the back-side with a low draw, low ¾ slot. Fastball sat 91-93 with life. Curveball, 10/4 shape, sweeping action, good feel for, 75-78.

KC Simonich, OF, Northwest Florida State (FL)

6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed outfielder, athletically-built. Three-hole hitter, pull-side approach, ability to hit for power, squared the ball up consistently. Barrel path has some natural lift, at-times remains level through the zone. Hands are athletic, some quick-twitch.
