Undefeated American Heritage Puts Away Trinity Christian Academy

By Mike Maerz

Last night, the Trinity Christian Academy (Lake Worth) Warriors visited the undefeated American Heritage Patriots in a game that would feature the home team taking advantage of some mistakes on the field, big hits, and solid pitching. The Patriots banged out nine hits on their way to an 11-2 victory.

Starting for the Warriors was 2018 RHP Angel Tiburcio, who sat 84-88 mph with his fastball with movement along with a 72-74 mph curveball. The Central Florida recruit struck out five, but some big hits and working behind in the count at times put him on the losing end at the end of the night. He left after three innings with four runs allowed.

The starter for American Heritage and eventual winner was 2017 RHP Israel Cordero. He pitched 4 1/3 innings and scattered three hits on the night as he kept the Trinity Christian lineup off balance. He featured a good mix of offspeed pitches along with his fastball and finished with five strikeouts on the night. After Cordero exited the game, 2017 RHP Cody Cortelli and 2016 RHP Taylor D’Agostino shut the door on any Trinity Christian comeback as they combined for three strikeouts and allowed only one hit in their 2 2/3 innings of work.

The Patriots got some big hits from their lineup on the night, which included a solo home run from 2018 C Julio Cortez. Cortez showed some good pop in his bat by making hard, solid contact. 2017 IF Travis Holt and 2017 3B Anthony Boix paced the Patriot offense with three RBIs and two runs scored. 2016 OF Jacob Pino doubled in one of his at-bats on a ball that just stayed in the park after hitting the top of the right field fence.

With the victory, American Heritage moved to 7-0 on the year and will look to stay perfect on the season when they take on Palm Beach Gardens HS, FL, later this week.
