As the 2020 high school season was cut short, many seniors lost valuable field time to help their schools achieve some wins as well as losing out on opportunities for college coaches to evaluate them. Thirteen seniors from the 2020 graduating class showed up on June 16 to showcase their skills one more time. Below is a scouting analysis on each senior that was present at the event.
Here are those uncommitted seniors:
Hunter Bates: RHP, (2020) Curry, AL. 6-foot-1, 203-pound. On the mound, showed quick arm speed and a ¾ arm angle. Showed some effort in his delivery. Shows a clean finish. Sat with his fastball at 77-78 mph with a max of 78 mph; had sinking action and around the zone control. Throws a 11/5 curveball that shows sweeping action and around the zone control.
Brett Brosnan: C, (2020) Bob Jones, AL. 5-foot-7, 155-pound solid frame. In the box, Brosnan had an exit velocity of 83 mph. Setup was comprised of balanced stance and a controlled stride. Bat speed is efficient and exhibits short swing plane. He Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.12-2.24, throw downs to second topped out at 70 mph; had a fluid exchange, consistent footwork and sure hands. Narrow setup with some flexibility. Recorded a 60 time of 7.53 at the event. Shows nice control of the barrel at the plate.
Alijah Franklin: SS/OF, (2020) Calera, AL. 5-foot-9, 170-pound athletic frame. In the box, Franklin's best exit velocity was 83 mph. Starts in an athletic stance. Has above average bat speed and level swing plane. During his round he produced some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 81 mph; showed a natural exchange, smooth feet and consistent hands. Had a quick arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Really handles the ball on the inner half well.
Robert Glass: 3B/1B, (2020) Billingsley, AL. 6-foot, 230-pound physical frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 83 mph. Shows a controlled load. Has quick bat speed and uphill swing plane. He found lots of barrels with a lot of loud contact. Pull side approach. Above average while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 71 mph; has a natural exchange, developing feet and soft hands. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 8.09. Really keeps the barrel through the hitting zone.
KJ Kendrick: OF/RHP, (2020) Alabama Christian, AL. 6-foot-3, 170-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Kendrick's best exit velocity was 85 mph. Starts in an athletic stance with a smooth load, then uses a controlled stride just before his swing. Has quick bat speed and level swing plane. Through the round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Above average from the outfield, his best throws to the bases were registered at 77 mph; has sure hands, a clean exchange and consistent feet. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.85. Switch hitter that appears to be equally adept from both sides of the plate.
Zach Nolfe: C/1B, (2020) Saraland, AL. 6-foot, 220-pound sturdy frame. In the box, Nolfe recorded an exit velocity of 85 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a compact load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed was explosive, showed uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Pull side approach. Behind the plate, recorded a pop time of 2.21-2.25, his best recorded velocity during throw downs was clocked at 75 mph; had a natural exchange, consistent hands and developing footwork. Showcases average flexibility. Clocked a time of 8.52 in the 60-yard dash.
Brett Parker: RHP/OF, (2020) Elkmont, AL. 6-foot-5, 205-pound. Smooth on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a ¾ arm angle. Showed some effort in his delivery. Has a clean finish. Sat with his fastball at 81-82 mph with a max of 82 mph; had in the zone control and sinking action. His curveball (66-69) had sweeping action and around the zone control. Showed fading action and command around the zone on his changeup (71-72). Creates nice tilt on the fastball from his 6'5 frame.
Gage Reeves: C/OF, (2020) Dothan, AL. 6-foot-1, 185-pound mature frame. In the box, the switch hitter clocked an exit velocity of 83 mph. Had a smooth load. Bat speed was efficient. During his round he produced some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.01-2.12, in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 80 mph. He produced a position velocity of 74 mph during throw downs; has soft hands, a quick exchange and smooth feet. Showed some flexibility. Had consistent accuracy. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.32. Has filled out physically over the last year. Athletic backstop.
Brett Rowell: C/1B, (2020) Choctawhatchee, FL. 6-foot-1, 210-pound sturdy frame. At the plate, Rowell showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 91 mph. Setup includes balanced stance and a quick stride. Had quick bat speed, upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.03-2.11, his best recorded velocity during throw downs was clocked at 78 mph; has soft hands, quick feet and a fluid exchange. Displays some flexibility. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.53. On the mound, showed easy effort in his delivery. Shows a clean finish. Sat with his fastball at 81-82 mph with a max of 83 mph; had in the zone command and running action. Had a 11/5 curveball (69-70) that showed late action and low in the zone control. Has control around the zone and fading action on his changeup (77-78).
Cole Senn: 2B/RHP, (2020) Northridge, AL. 5-foot-11, 165-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Senn recorded an exit velocity of 76 mph. Has a balanced stance. Bat speed is efficient, uses level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Through the round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Opposite field approach. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 76 mph; had a clean exchange, soft hands and smooth footwork. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. Clocked a time of 7.69 in the 60-yard dash. Athletic on the mound, showed some effort in his delivery. Has a clean finish. Threw his fastball 74-75 mph with a max of 75 mph; showed in the zone command. Shows control around the zone and tight action on his 11/5 curveball (63-64). Shows looseness in the hands at the plate.
Collin Strope: 2B/3B, (2020) Sparkman, AL. 5-foot-9, 170-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Strope had a max exit velocity of 85 mph. Began in an athletic stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride before his swing. Bat speed was efficient, had simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Athletic in the infield, displayed a velocity of 70 mph; shows soft hands, a quick exchange and athletic feet. Used a quick arm action with a ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Versatile infielder that can really hit, producing consistent line drives during his BP round.
Clay Tittle: RHP, (2020) Springville, AL. 5-foot-11, 200-pound. Smooth on the mound, had a quick arm action with a ¾ arm angle. Shows some effort in his delivery. an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-84 mph with a max of 85 mph; shows in the zone command. Has tight action and control around the zone on his 11/5 curveball (75-77). Showed fading action and control around the zone on his changeup (68-69). The fastball showed some late arm side action and should be a weapon vs. RH hitters.
Cale Underwood: OF/3B, (2020) Wilson, AL. 6-foot, 185-pound athletic frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 86 mph. Started in an athletic stance with a smooth load. Bat speed is efficient and shows long swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Pull side approach. In the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 77 mph; shows developing feet, consistent hands and a clean exchange.
