Vera Homers Twice In No 9 St Thomas' Rout of No 24 Nova

No 9 St Thomas Aquinas took on No 24 Nova in a cross town rivalry at Pat McQuaid Field last night. Aquinas would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to a home run from Pitt recruit Nick Vera. Nova would answer back in the bottom of the first though, as starting pitch Asdin Santiago would leadoff with a double and eventually score on a wild pitch.
Miami recruit Nate Thomas would get the start for St Thomas Aquinas and would work mostly 85-87 mph from a lower 3/4 slot. He had scattered command, but managed to keep the Titan hitters off balance for the majority of the night.
Nick Vera would lead off the third with another home run and would kick off what would be a breakout inning for the Raiders. The Raiders would load the bases and would eventually get RBI singles from Otis McDuffie, Gabe Terry and Connor O’Hara to give 10-1 lead in the third innings.
Nova would answer back though as the Jared Campbell would double and drive in a run and his brother Jordan would then proceed to drive him in to cut the lead to 10-3. That would not be enough though, as Raheem Salmon would hit a home run in the fourth and a two RBI single from Gabe Terry would give St Thomas a 13-3 lead and they would hold on to win in 5 innings.
