BRUNSWICK, GA - This past weekend the second weekend of the 2019 Battle at the Beach took place at various locations around Brunswick, GA. The second night of the weekend, February 23nd, saw three time slots played at three locations.

The very first game of the day saw a talented River Ridge team stack up against Bremen. River Ridge sports two of the top 2019s in Georgia: No.15 RHP Ethan Anderson (Tennessee recruit) and No.13 3B/1B Brandon Smith (Georgia recruit). Anderson was specifically impressive on the mound, running his fastball up to 89 mph.

Game two on the day was my first introduction to a talented squad at Fellowship Christian. The Paladins are as solid of a team as any with senior leaders C Cameron Gil (Wofford recruit) and RHP/INF Isaac Bouton (Columbus State University recruit) and a slew of underclassman who are already producing.

Finally, the weekend ended with a second look at the Redan Raiders, specifically at one of the top 2020 arms in the state No.23 RHP Donye Evans (Kennesaw St. commit). Evans did not disappoint. He used his long, lanky 6-foot-5 frame to create difficult angles for the Glynn Academy offense, while working his fastball up to 85 mph.

Keep reading to view reports and video on standout prospects for day two of the 2019 Battle at the Beach.

Ethan Anderson, RHP/OF, River Ridge, 2019

Simple, clean delivery, smooth rhythm, works on-line, lands toe-closed pivoting to square, finishes upright. Fastball sat 87-89 out of the windup, sat 85-87 in the stretch, gets good tilt on pitch at-times. Curveball, depth, disguises well, 77-80.

Brandon Smith, 1B, River Ridge, 2019
Georgia recruit. 6-foot-3, 195-pound switch-hitting corner infielder, strong frame, broad shoulders. Offensively, took all swings from the left-side, open setup, toe-tap stride, hands load back, maintains great balance through contact, smooth rhythm. Gap-to-gap type hitter, swings with intent and aggression, generates power with lower half, looks to drive the ball. Ran a 4.85 on the turn on a double he squared up in his first at-bat.

Kobe Braddock, 3B/2B, River Ridge, 2020
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting infielder, lean athletic build. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, no load, maintains balance through contact. Hands work quickly and athletically through the zone, barrel path is short and level, line drive type hitter

Gap-to-gap type hitter, barrel works slightly uphill with present bat speed, can drive the ball. Hit a leadoff home run and then a triple in his first two at-bats, was intentionally walked his third. On the mound, works out of the stretch-only, drop and drive delivery, short arm action, ¾ slot. Fastball sat 82-84, touched 85. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, 69-73. Located both pitches to the glove-side.

Cameron Gil, C, Fellowship Christian, 2019

Defensively, advanced catch and throw tool, quick, clean transfers, fluid footwork, routinely put throws on-line. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, hands load back, maintains good balance. Gap-to-gap type hitter with pull-side power, advanced approach, looks for the ball middle/in so he can drive it pull/middle.  Pulled two hard hit line drives straight at the third baseman in first two at-bats, then had a base hit single in his third at-bat.

Donye Evans, RHP, Redan, 2020
Kennesaw State commit. 6-foot-5, 195-pounds, right-handed pitcher, long, lanky frame, plenty of room for filling out. On the mound, arm action works relatively short for size, ¾ slot, gets good extension, creates a difficult angle. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands somewhat flat-footed, toe-closed pivots to square, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 83-85 with armside run. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, late break, 71 mph. Changeup, mostly straight, flashed sink, 74-76.
