TEAM OUTLOOK
For a team that’s projected to start two freshmen in the starting nine, you expect some inexperience but Dawson County is returning seven starters as well as one of the most experienced starting staffs in the region. That staff led by a trio of seniors in Trey Harvey, Banks Hickman and Emmanuel College commit Joshua Priest bring the type of leadership and battle-tested innings to give the Tigers a chance to win any given night. Senior right-fielder and Georgia Highlands commit Julian Horner will be the cornerstone of the offense and all-region type of player for the Tigers this spring after a junior season that featured a 1.244 OPS and 8 HR. Junior outfielder Jacson Rickett will be a mainstay at the top of the lineup, as well as 1B/QB1 Preston Bannister, who could be poised for a strong junior season. Aforementioned freshmen catcher Carson Sosebee and second baseman Ryder Sorace will be counted on for significant roles, and sophomore SS Jadyn Mattie will be continuing to mature in his role after earning valuable time as a freshman. It’s a gritty group that will be looking to improve on a .500 season in 2023, and will be a fun team to watch in 3A this spring.
