GHSA Playoffs - Franklin County vs Morgan County
May 5, 2022
There’s nothing quite like the playoff atmosphere at Flyer Field, home of the 2021 GHSA AAA State Championship runner up Franklin County Lions. They had a formidable opponent as they crossed the foul line at 5pm Wednesday evening, the Morgan County Bulldogs. After scouting the Bulldogs, it's easy to understand why they were able to upset Mary Persons Rd 1. They have an ace on the mound up to 92 mph, and a loaded top half of their lineup with good role players as well. However, they just couldn’t get the bats going against stud USF Commit ‘22 RHP Lawson Gailey in game one, or their Emmanuel Commit ‘22 LHP Miles Dodd in game 2. Let's take a look at the standout talent in each dugout.
Morgan County Bulldogs
Samuel Schofield, RHP, Morgan County, 2023
Uncommitted. At 6 foot 3, 195 pounds with broad shoulders and long levers, he brings a combo of deception and exceptional velocity. But not just deception with his front side and glove, deception with the life of his fastball. It sat 89, regularly touching 90-91 T92 with 2400 rpm from a high ¾ slot. He stays behind the pitch so well it creates riding life to the eye, in reality it just drops into the zone slower than most FB’s. Whatever way you see it is the effect it’s having on hitters, causing them to swing under it. His delivery starts slowly to square up but gains gradual momentum, turning into easy violence after he lands. His CB was 72-74 with nice shape at 2400 rpm. He spins the ball easily and the pitch will take off when he can repeat his FB slot with it consistently. An exciting one to watch grow for the next year!
