Roswell vs Alpharetta
February 19, 2020

Emerson, GA: With the wet conditions the local rivals squared off at LakePoint on Wednesday. We had another pitching duel on our hands. There was not much going for either team most of the game. Charlie Esposito led the game off with a triple down the line, but was caught trying to take home on a wild pitch.  North Georgia commit, RHP Jacob Lassiat (Alpharetta) squared off against Junior LHP/OF Caden Long (Roswell) on the mound. Both pitchers had their share of walks early in the game, but were able to work out of each inning.

Lassiat’s fastball was 80-84, and topped out at 85. His slider was really working for him, it had really good spin and late break that kept the hitters guessing. He managed to strikeout five in four innings of work. Bryce Troutt helped him out in the third with a nice play at shortstop to his back-hand to get the lead runner at second.

Lassiat below:

LHP Caden Long retired the first six Raider batters. The lefty pounded the zone, and kept hitters on their front foot with a slow breaking ball. He went four innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. He came up with a big strikeout with two runners on base in the fourth.

The action finally got started in the top of seventh. There were five hits between the two teams up until that point. Pinch hitter, Elliot Esposito reached base on an error to get the inning started for the Hornets. His brother followed him with a walk to bring up Caden Long. Long took matters into his own hands, and turned on an inside pitch to deep right center for a two RBI triple. Wofford commit, Sam Stratton would come up and score Long on a ground ball to short to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead.

Long's triple:

Roswell would go on to plate one more run in the inning. Elliott Esposito finished the game on the mound for the Hornets to give them the 4-0 victory. Alpharetta drops to 0-3, and Roswell remains unbeaten at 3-0. Both teams are back in action on Friday night.. Roswell travels to Centennial and Alpharetta takes on Woodstock.
